SDF WC2026 Group Stage Recap The WC2026 group stage has come to an end, and it has already produced plenty of unforgettable performances. From Lionel Messi rewriting the record books to breakout stars rewarding managers who backed them early, the opening three matchdays have shaped leaderboards across both SDF Pro and Free-to-Play. Some of football's biggest names lived up to expectations, while a handful of surprise performers became some of the tournament's biggest point scorers. Here are the players who stood above the rest after the group stage. Lionel Messi was in a League of His Own The Argentine finished the group stage as the highest-scoring player on SDF with an incredible 542 points, comfortably clear of every other player in the tournament. His performances mirrored what we saw on the pitch, scoring six goals, becoming the all-time tournament goalscorer, and the only player to score in 7 consecutive games, the oldest player to score a hat-trick at the WC, and the player with the most goals from outside the box. Messi also topped the F2P forward rankings, making him one of the few players who was an automatic success regardless of which game mode managers played. Defenders Made The Difference While attackers naturally grabbed the headlines, defenders proved just as valuable across the opening three matchdays. Virgil van Dijk finished as the highest-scoring defender on both Pro and Free-to-Play with 369 points, combining defensive consistency with attacking returns. Spain's Pau Cubarsí followed closely behind, while Achraf Hakimi completed the top three after another tournament full of attacking contributions from right-back. Midfield Was Defined By Consistency Jude Bellingham led all midfielders after three matchdays, finishing on 349 points. Who else? Rodri once again demonstrated why consistency matters, claiming second place despite producing very different performances across each round. Elliot Anderson emerged as one of the biggest surprises of the tournament, ending the group stage inside the top three midfielders after producing points in every matchday. Goalkeepers: A Quiet Secret Weapon Goalkeepers rarely receive the same attention as goalscorers, but are as essential to your total Picks score, and make the difference in relegation and promotion battles. Unai Simón finished as the highest-scoring goalkeeper across both Pro and Free-to-Play after conceding just once during the group stage while consistently collecting clean-sheets. Alisson Becker also finished inside the top three in both game modes, while Alireza Beiranvand claimed second place in Free-to-Play thanks to a series of outstanding performances. Diogo Costa finished as third on Pro after collecting two clean sheets for Portugal during the group stages. The Best Forwards Were Exactly Who Managers Needed Behind Messi, Ousmane Dembélé and Vinícius Júnior completed the top three forwards. Viní joined an elite club of players who collected a MOTM award in all three group stage matches. Dembélé exploded during the later matchdays to finish with 448 points, thanks to his incredible hat-trick against Norway, and his assists in previous matches. While Vinícius Júnior became a favorite for managers by consistently getting on the scoresheets for Brazil. Few forward trios returned points as consistently as these three. Crunch Time Begins The first matchday of the knockout stages saw Canada go through to the RO16 for the first time in their history, while South Africa will be heading home. Today’s matches will also reveal who might be favorites to go all the way. Every match is now a must win. Rotation becomes less predictable, and a single upset or a performance from an underrated player can completely reshape the SDF leaderboards. Managers who successfully identify the next breakout star could separate themselves when it matters most.
