An update from Sonic Labs There are real changes at Sonic, and you deserve to hear them straight. This covers our board, our leadership, where we honestly stand today, and what we are committing to from here. Changes to the board Michael Kong, Andre Cronje, and David Richardson are resigning from the Sonic Labs board. These are the people who built what Sonic is today, and a single line in an announcement does not cover what they gave it. They remain invested in Sonic's success and are handing off their responsibilities the right way, in full. From here, they will no longer make business decisions for the organization. To Michael, Andre, and David: thank you. The foundation you laid is the reason everything below is even possible. New leadership Matt Visser steps in as Chief Executive Officer. Kosta Kourkoumelis joins as Chief Operating Officer. Their first priority is not a roadmap reveal. It is operational discipline and earning back trust, in that order. "I am not here to promise an instant turnaround. I am here to make Sonic 1% better every single day and let that compound. Show up, do the work, prove it in public, repeat." Matt Visser, Chief Executive Officer The hard truths We are not going to open with a victory lap. The token is down. Community sentiment is down. We see both clearly, we are not spinning it, and we are not asking anyone to pretend otherwise. So treat this as day one. The next 100 days are not a sprint to some finish line. The plan is simpler and harder than that: get 1% better every day and let it compound. Small gains, stacked daily, all pointed in the same direction. Hold that for 100 days and the Sonic you see at the end will not look like the one you see today. Here is what changes. What we are committing to Transparent governance. Decisions, and the reasoning behind them, will be visible. No black boxes, no quiet rooms. A real risk and compliance function. We are standing up a dedicated risk and compliance committee so the way we operate matches the standard our holders deserve. Community first, with respect. The people holding $S are retail investors, not a vanity metric. We will treat them as stakeholders we answer to, not an audience we perform for. Clear communication. Fewer announcements that say nothing. More plain updates on what we are doing, why, and what came of it. What never stopped: the tech While all of the above was in motion, the engineering team did not lose a single day. In 2026 so far: 400 meaningful pull requests merged into the main branch on GitHub 2 official releases shipped Major release 2.2.0 in active development, with 6 release candidates to date A private testnet live and under intensive testing Manual and automated pipelines running at full load The technology has always been Sonic's strongest hand, and it never slowed down. That part of the company stayed consistent, and it has kept building straight through everything else. We as a team None of this is one person's work, and none of the credit is one person's either. We are saying this as a team, and we expect to be judged as one. For disclosures, concerns, or anything you believe we should know, reach us directly at disclosure@soniclabs.com.

Shadow Becomes Part of Sonic’s Vertical Integration Shadow is becoming part of Sonic’s vertical integration path. It already plays a central role in Sonic’s market structure. Liquidity is deployed through its pools, key pairs trade there, and depth forms around its concentrated liquidity markets. That gives Sonic a live market layer where trading activity, fees, rewards, and $S demand already exist in the same flow. Vertical integration is not limited to products built from scratch. It also includes the ecosystem layers already handling meaningful financial activity who decide to support the $S token in a meaningful way. Concentrated Liquidity As Market Infrastructure Shadow’s concentrated liquidity model lets LPs deploy capital inside specific price ranges rather than across the full curve. For traders, that creates deeper liquidity around active price zones. For LPs, it gives more control over where capital is used. For Sonic, it improves the quality of markets built on the network. Better depth supports tighter execution, larger trades, and more efficient liquidity formation. Depth, execution, and fee generation are what turn raw blockspace into usable financial infrastructure. Shadow is more than a swap venue. It is part of Sonic’s market infrastructure. AutoVault And Value Routing Shadow’s AutoVaults automate how xSHADOW revenue is converted and compounded. Weekly epoch rewards can be used to acquire $S, while AutoVault handles voting, reward claiming, conversion, and compounding. AutoVault currently holds $1,093,699 in TVL and represents 59.04% voting power, giving it a meaningful role in how rewards are directed across Shadow. Since inception, the Shadow AutoVault at: 0x1a99E55A2F6ae7d64bcfeDE80837b5884b1B1D74 has acquired: This is already visible onchain: rewards from an active Sonic application being converted into assets aligned with the network. AutoVault turns recurring application rewards into accumulation without requiring value capture to come from higher base-layer fees. Market Activity and $S Value Capture Sonic’s model is built around low cost execution at the network layer and value creation at the application layer. Shadow’s concentrated liquidity markets support depth and execution. Its AutoVaults create an automated path from recurring rewards into $S and USDC. The result is a live path from market activity to $S value capture. Sonic’s approach is to align the products already creating usage, liquidity, and fees with the network’s economics. Shadow already has those flows in motion: liquidity, trading activity, rewards, and $S acquisition, all happening onchain.

Sonic in 2026 and Beyond Initiative Updates — Part 1 (This article is part of an ongoing series) Sonic Labs is launching a new series of regular ecosystem updates to strengthen communication with the community and provide clearer visibility into Sonic’s progress, priorities, and long-term direction. This first update of 2026 combines focused ecosystem updates with broader strategic context. The objective is to close information gaps, align expectations, and clearly articulate how Sonic is positioning itself for sustainable growth in the years ahead. Leadership and the Sonic Development Fund Mitchell Demeter has transitioned out of his role with Sonic. We thank him for his time and contributions and wish him the best in his future endeavors. Evan Owens, Director of Business Development, has also stepped down. Sonic Labs remains under the overall stewardship of the Board of Directors, the founding leadership group that has been in place for more than seven years. That said, the leadership team is actively searching for a suitable successor to Mitchell as CEO to lead Sonic into its next chapter. In the interim, the Board will oversee operations and continue to support the organization on an ongoing basis. Through disciplined fund management and a diversified allocation strategy, the Sonic development fund has grown into a robust runway for Sonic’s continued technical advancements in blockchain technology. This position underpins Sonic’s long-term sustainability in a Layer 1 environment which is often challenged by venture unlock pressure, limited circulating supply, and short operational runways. Sonic has no venture capital unlocks and is fully diluted. Sonic has ample resources and will be building for many years to come. The Sonic development fund is privately managed and diversified across S native tokens, stablecoins, treasury bills, digital assets, real estate, and equity investments. This conservative approach has supported Sonic’s ability to operate continuously for more than eight years, even as many heavily funded Layer 1 projects have struggled to stay afloat. Importantly, Sonic’s development runway extends well beyond any dependency on the market price of S. The network is built on solid financial fundamentals, allowing leadership to remain focused on long- term execution rather than short-term market cycles. Strategic Allocations Sonic Strategy holds 126,622,348.845 S tokens sourced from Sonic governance funding, excluding staking rewards and market purchased tokens. These tokens are actively staked and held at the following address: 0xc9d21b370d7d2a24ee0b08f82323777737a653f6 The wallet is secured via a 4-of-6 multisignature configuration, with three signers designated by Sonic Labs. Under a binding legal agreement, these tokens are permanently restricted from being sold, swapped, lent, or used to mint liquid staking assets. The allocation is designated solely to function as mNAV backing. Sonic Strategy in the ecosystem and continues to maintain meaningful exposure through validator and DeFi operations. As a public institutional supporter, they periodically monetize a portion of rewards to fund operations and manage the balance sheet. Separately, Sonic Labs has concluded its relationship with the CMCC Resonance Fund following a review of recent activity. Sonic Labs is evaluating alternative partners that align more closely with the network’s governance standards and long-term ecosystem objectives. Product and Builder Momentum Spawn: Accelerating Smart Contract Development Announced in July 2025 at the Seoul event, Spawn is an AI-driven smart contract generation platform designed to reduce the friction of building on Sonic. Spawn is currently undergoing internal testing and is already being used to generate and deploy smart contracts. Development efforts are focused on improving reliability, addressing stability edge cases, expanding supported contract frameworks, and refining the end-to-end user experience before reopening access to the broader community. Spawn made its live debut at the Sonic Denver event with a fully functional Snake game deployed on Sonic, built entirely through natural language prompts with zero manual coding required. Learn more here: https://blog.soniclabs.com/sonic-labs-debuts-spawn/ As our whitelist expands, we're incorporating feedback to refine the tooling with the goal of enabling the mass deployment of applications on the Sonic network. Fee Monetization (FeeM) To date, more than 2,600,000 S has been earned directly by builders through FeeM. Sonic Labs is evaluating updates to FeeM, including a potential transition from the current 90% rebate to a tiered structure. This evolution aims to preserve builder incentives while improving long-term protocol economics. FeeM also functions as a tool to subsidize user experience and application onboarding, helping projects reduce friction while remaining aligned with sustainable value creation. Updates like Pectra, gas subsidy and the upcoming v2.2 upgrade will further empower builders to optimize their userflows with a more gas abstracted experience. We look forward to providing updates as they become available Builders may continue to enroll under the current model while evaluations are ongoing: https://feem.soniclabs.com/ Innovator Fund and Sonic Wave Program The Innovator Fund and Sonic Wave program will continue to support teams building meaningful applications and infrastructure on Sonic, with a clearer emphasis on long-term ecosystem health. Moving forward, grants will be allocated with a focus on projects that demonstrate durable use cases, thoughtful economic design, and clear alignment with the growth of the network and S token. Rather than prioritizing short-term activity, the program is intended to support builders creating products that can sustain usage and relevance over time. Sonic Labs will work closely with selected teams to support development and ecosystem integration, deploying capital in a way that strengthens Sonic’s foundations and contributes to long-term value creation for the network and the S token. Have an idea on how your application can bring more value to the S token? Reach out to bd@soniclabs.com to make a proposal. A Renewed Ecosystem Model Sonic has introduced an updated application support framework designed to improve alignment between ecosystem growth and the economic fundamentals of the S token. Applications receiving grants from Sonic Labs are expected to contribute measurable value back to the protocol layer through clearly defined mechanisms, including increased S token burn, alongside standard network fee generation. The objective is to ensure that as application adoption grows, chain level economics strengthen in parallel, supporting a sustainable relationship between applications, their communities and Sonic as a whole. Additional context on this approach is outlined in our recent article on vertical integration: https://blog.soniclabs.com/vertical-integration-the-missing-link-in-l1-value-creation/ Community, Education, and Engagement Initiatives Over the past two years, Sonic has explored several community-driven initiatives, including Meme Season, Sonic University, and Sonic and Sodas to support ecosystem growth during different market conditions. These programs contributed to grassroots engagement and developer awareness across multiple regions. Going forward, Sonic is prioritizing initiatives that scale efficiently and support long-term ecosystem development. As a result: Meme Season incentives have been discontinued indefinitely. Sonic & Sodas has concluded as resources shift toward internally led events and major global conferences. Sonic University relationships remain active, with future efforts focused on scalable developer onboarding. Sonic remains grateful to the community members, organizers, and students who contributed to these initiatives. Looking Ahead Through 2026, Sonic’s focus is on steady execution across infrastructure and economic alignment. Sonic Labs is also selectively advancing a vertical integration approach around core financial primitives to improve reliability and ensure that value created by network activity accrues back to the S token, while continuing to support a broad ecosystem of independent builders. Sonic Labs will continue working with ecosystem teams to improve developer tooling, support high-quality applications, and refine mechanisms that strengthen sustainability over time. This update marks the first in a series intended to provide clearer visibility into Sonic’s progress. In part 2 of this update, we will touch on governance improvements, validator staking changes, tokenomics consolidation, technical roadmap and more.

    Wu Blockchain (@WuBlockchain)

Sonic Labs announced a shift from a gas-fee–centric Layer 1 value-capture model to a vertically integrated strategy, building or acquiring core applications and financial primitives to internalize key economic activity and direct trading fees, protocol income, and application revenues to the S token. Against a backdrop of blockspace oversupply and ongoing fee compression, the team stated that transaction fees alone are insufficient for sustainable value capture. Sonic plans to deploy integrated products across trading, lending, payments, and settlement, leveraging Fee Monetization to recycle gas fees for user onboarding and micro-CAC, while phasing out airdrops and low-efficiency incentives. Future S token buybacks will be funded by protocol-generated revenue rather than treasury drawdowns. https://x.com/SonicLabs/status/2021617901011358181?s=20

    SODAX (@gosodax)

SODAX secures the Sonic blockchain Summary: Launched Validator Node on @SonicLabs, helping to secure the Network. Participating in governance, for further decentralization. Acquired 3,000,000 $S tokens in the open market for self-staking. Sonic Labs have joined in delegating a further 3,000,000 $S tokens. Committed to restaking 100% of validator rewards. As a former Layer 1 project, we fully understand the importance of decentralization and governance. This is why SODAX is now officially running a validator node on Sonic! We’ve been working on this for a while behind the scenes and are excited to take this next step with Sonic, building the future of cross-chain DeFi while giving back to the ecosystem that makes it all possible. You can stake with our validator, ID #46, here! From ICON to SODAX If you’ve been following along, you’ll know we started out as the ICON project, with our own layer 1 blockchain. Now we’ve evolved into SODAX, and earlier this year made the call to migrate our DeFi infrastructure over to Sonic, the new hub-chain in our hub-and-spoke cross-chain infra. The Sonic team has been nothing short of incredible during this migration. With strong developer and community support, they’ve helped make the move smoother than we could have hoped. This shouldn’t be a one-way relationship though, so in addition to our ongoing support for Sonic’s in-person events, we felt there was more we could contribute. Why Validate? For us it’s simple, if you’re building on a network, you should also help secure it. Every builder who depends on Sonic’s rock-solid blockchain infrastructure, is also reliant on their stability, decentralization, and long-term health. By running a validator, we’re now directly contributing to the hub-chain that our cross-chain DeFi ecosystem relies on. Why wouldn’t we want a stake in it? Committing to $S To kick things off, we’ve purchased our own initial 3 million $S self-stake in the open market, at around $0.60 per $S, as a direct investment into the Sonic network’s future. This isn’t a one-and-done; we plan to steadily accumulate more $S, building both our liquidity and our validator stake over time. While validators are often criticised for selling reward tokens to fund operations (something we’ve always considered fair compensation for providing a critical service), we’re in the fortunate position to take a different path. Instead of selling rewards, we’ll be compounding them – growing our holdings and deepening our commitment. For us, it’s about investing in the ecosystem’s growth, not extracting value from the services we provide. Our Vision with Sonic The future for SODAX is seamless cross-chain DeFi, with our Unified Liquidity Layer addressing fragmentation with our own Protocol-Owned Liquidity (POL), integrations to leading liquidity sources, and routing through intent-based execution. Sonic will be indispensable in this model, acting as our hub-chain on which all book-keeping across 12+ chains is settled, and handling our blockchain infrastructure — so we can focus on connecting chains, protocols, and users without friction. As Sonic supports us, we’re committed to supporting Sonic, with this validator node being just one way we’re putting that into action. What This Means for You Depending on who you are, here’s what is coming up from SODAX, our validator node, and our cross-chain infrastructure: Stronger network decentralization for Sonic — benefiting the whole network. Access to seamless cross-chain DeFi — with EVM chains and beyond. A more open playground for builders — with our SODAX SDK, expanding cross-chain with unified liquidity and intents just got way simpler. This is just the start. With Sonic as our home base, we’re building a future where DeFi flows freely across chains and bringing the whole community with us. Stay liquid. 🥤
