ETHFI to Fully Exit EigenLayer Restaking as Yields Dry Up and Sector Profitability Declines ETHFI will sever its remaining structural ties with EigenLayer this quarter, citing a lack of meaningful additional yield relative to the risks of restaking. Less than 1% of its assets remained restaked as of August, while weETH has already removed restaking and now functions as a standard liquid staking token. Users seeking restaking exposure must opt into a separate product built on Symbiotic. DefiLlama data showed the restaking sector held $10.02 billion in TVL on September 8 but generated only about $100,000 in weekly fees, compared with $27.35 million generated by liquid staking on $51.87 billion in TVL. Excluding ETHFI, Renzo, Kelp, Swell, Puffer Finance and Bedrock generated a combined $953,350 in gross profit in Q2 2026, down from $2.18 million three quarters earlier. The sector has faced weaker economics as points incentives ended, EigenLayer activated slashing, and the Kelp bridge exploit highlighted additional cross-chain security risks.

On July 30th, the Incentives Committee ended EIGEN emissions to the ETH quorum, the ETH and LST stake used to provide security across EigenLayer and EigenDA. The decision was made by the Incentives Committee in consultation with operators, ecosystem projects and customers. These incentives were introduced to bootstrap early participation into EigenLayer and EigenDA. Both protocols have since matured and those bootstrap subsidies have served their purpose. The EIGEN emissions previously allocated to this quorum will be burned. This is part of the Incentives Committee’s broader mandate to reduce emissions that no longer create durable value, direct incentives toward activities that do and ensure EIGEN monetary policy supports long-term value accrual. ☁️ Heads Up: Last month we unveiled one of the most important releases in crypto infrastructure, EigenCloud. Our very own @sreeramkannan and @jt_rose sat with @TrustlessState on the @BanklessHQ podcast to discuss what EigenCloud is, why it matters, and how it unlocks a new era of onchain apps. It’s a whole new category: a verifiable cloud. For the last 18 months, crypto builders have known EigenLayer as the “restaking” protocol. But that was just the engine. EigenCloud is the full machine. It packages everything EigenLayer has built, staking infrastructure, @eigen_da, slashing, redistribution, and offchain containers, into a developer-facing product with: 💪 Cloud-Scale Programmability 💪 Crypto-Grade Verifiability Think of it this way: Ethereum gave us programmable money.
