Builder Spotlight | The Man Behind HiveMind The primitives for the next wave of consumer apps are here, and people are already integrating them into their own projects: real products, not prototypes. These Spotlights are about the developers behind those projects, starting with Kylan Hurt and what he's been cooking up with HiveMind. Kylan didn't come to Intuition looking for short-term gains. He came looking for a foundation. Back in 2019 he asked a coworker for a standing favor: if a project ever showed up that took online reputation and identity seriously, let him know. Unfortunately, the tip never came. He kept building other things and kept watching the space, year after year, his dedication only growing stronger. The Piece that was missing By 2024 he was at MetaMask with a side project running in the background, a browser extension for X he used to tag accounts with private notes to himself. Useful, small, and forever bumping into the same ceiling: the notes were his alone, with no shared sense of who anyone actually was. Then Billy, the founder of Intuition, came to give a talk to the team, and sitting there Kylan understood he was looking at the piece he'd been missing. "I immediately started researching ways to integrate it into what I was building, as its core functionality." That side project is now HiveMind, live in the Chrome store, with a MetaMask Snap due by the end of June and a claim explorer already running. What it does is plain enough: as you move around the web, it shows you what the Intuition network already knows about the accounts and sites in front of you, a decentralized knowledge graph for anyone to use. The Power of Decentralization The problem isn't abstract to Kylan. Think about how often you trust someone online with no real way to check them: the sender behind an email, the seller behind a link, the stranger in your replies. Most of the time you just hope for the best, and that's how people get phished, impersonated, or pulled into a fake job offer. The problem underneath all of it is the same. What you know about someone doesn't travel with them from one site to the next, and Kylan thinks it should. There's an even simpler version of the same problem. Online, a bad actor can just change their username and walk away clean, leaving the scam behind and starting over under a new name. On HiveMind that trick doesn't work: rename yourself as many times as you like, and the Intuition protocol incentivizes users to flag you as the same suspicious account. Many Perspectives What pulled him in deeper was watching his own assumptions break. When he started, he figured the most useful thing a reputation system could do was boil everyone down to a single score, one universal number that told you whether to trust them. He couldn't be more wrong. "The more trusted a single reputation score is, the higher the incentive to find a way to cheat it." The logic is simple: the more weight one number carries, the more people try to game it, so the score everyone trusts becomes the one everyone attacks. Kylan would rather lean on the people you already trust than on a faceless crowd, which is much closer to how trust works in real life. That's how Intuition is built by design. Instead of handing down a single verdict, it records reputation as individual claims, each one tied to the person who made it, so you can see who's vouching for whom and choose your own circle of trusted voices. The part that excites him most is subtler. Think about a like, or a thumbs-up: it tells the world how you feel, but it's stuck on the app where you tapped it and means nothing anywhere else. Intuition turns that reaction into something portable, with real weight behind it and a shared format any app can read, so your signal travels with you instead of dying in one place. "Users are going to start interacting with a new type of data. That's really exciting." A Long-term Mindset He's as particular about the basics as he is about the big ideas. He keeps coming back to one rule: being able to do something in a dApp is not the same as anyone wanting to use it. User experience decides whether they keep using it and tell their friends. For anyone thinking about building on Intuition, his advice is a practical way to start experimenting: "Learn how the protocol works, then arm your LLM with that context and start building. The Intuition protocol offers very rich data, so there are countless dApps that can be built on top of it." Kylan is a team of one. He's funded HiveMind out of his own savings and a grant Intuition gave him in December, and he writes most of it himself, sometimes from unlikely places. A good chunk got written in a fishing village in northern Peru, where a Starlink dish was the only internet for miles. When he's not shipping, he's out surfing, always glad to be back in the water. But on HiveMind, he's playing a longterm game. The cracks in today's platforms are getting hard to ignore. A recent hack at Meta locked thousands of creators out of their own accounts overnight, and on X, bots and AI slop keep drowning out real people. Kylan thinks that opens a door for web3 social media, and that AI, by making good software cheap to build, has leveled the field enough that the platforms that win next will be the ones people actually trust. His time at MetaMask convinced him that web3 has quietly become far more user-friendly than most developers realize. What gets him going is what he sees taking shape around Intuition: a community built around trust. "I have a feeling that we are building a unique type of community where trust is the highest priority. This is an experiment whose results are going to be intriguing to witness." He waited a long time for ground worth standing on. Now that he's got it, he's heads-down, backed by the army of Intuits. Want to join our cult?
