Introducing the first episode of What The FLock - our official podcast covering sovereign AI, private deployment, and real-world enterprise AI adoption. AI is already reshaping the world’s most important regulated industries - finance, healthcare, legal services, production, defence, and public services. But many companies still approach AI as a subscription tool, rather than an infrastructure integrated into their systems and operations. This time, our Chief of Staff @sameeha_rehman sat with @momarikar, our Head of Institutional Development, ex-RBC and ex-UBS, to discuss how FLock is building the infrastructure for enterprise-level sovereign, privacy-preserving AI. Mo has been working in banking and enterprise AI for over two decades. He became one of UBS's earliest promoted associate directors during the 2008 credit crisis before moving to the Royal Bank of Canada. RBC started sponsoring AI research at Imperial College and the University of Southampton in 2015, back when off-the-shelf NLP tools weren't strong enough for the work the bank wanted to do. In 2016, they hired the RBC's first-ever AI engineer in wealth management - a role that didn't really exist inside banks at the time. By the end of that year, his team had shipped an early agentic AI system, years before "AI agents" became a category in the discourse. That AI engineer was Jiahao Sun @0x7SUN , FLock's founder and CEO. In this episode, we covered: - Why most enterprise "AI privacy" is policy theatre, not architecture - Why RBC hired an AI engineer in 2016, even before AI was a thing - Federated learning for banks, hospitals, and defence allies who can't share raw data - Distributed inference on hardware you already own (the average office machine runs at ~5% capacity) - Flockit + FL Alliance: federated learning toolkits in production at real institutions - Sovereign AI and how nations are ceding control to foreign states by accident. An insider view from the recent FLock x SAIC partnerships during the UK-Sarawak roundtables on sovereign AI - Healthcare AI and why genome data has no "undo" button - FLock x UNDP partnership: agricultural underwriting and micro-insurance in the Dominican Republic - The privacy paradox: why consumers say they care, then trade their data for a $100 voucher If you're an AI builder, an entrepreneur, or simply curious about how to adopt AI without surrendering your data sovereignty, this episode is for you. This is Episode 1 of What The FLock. More episodes featuring the FLock team are coming soon. Hope you enjoy the series!
