TRON Historical Data Extraction with Substreams Introduction TRON historical data analysis—especially when working with contract_type decomposition—can quickly become a bottleneck. Querying directly from a TRON Fullnode or relying on public data platforms is often: Slow Incomplete for granular analysis Hard to scale for large block ranges This becomes a serious limitation when you want to answer questions like: How many TriggerSmartContract transactions occurred per quarter? What is the TRX burn distribution by contract type? How does multi-signature usage evolve over time? To solve this, we use Substreams, a high-performance data extraction and transformation framework designed for blockchain analytics. In this article, you’ll learn how to: Prepare a Substreams package tailored to TRON data Define contract types and extract relevant fields Build a transformation module Execute Substreams with two sink methods: JSONL files (lightweight) ClickHouse database (scalable analytics) Concept Explanation What are Substreams? Substreams are a data processing engine that allows you to: Extract historical and real-time blockchain data Apply custom transformations Process data in parallel for high performance Output results into multiple formats (files, databases) In this tutorial setup: Substreams modules filter and transform TRON transactions Results are exported via sink mechanisms like JSONL or ClickHouse Step-by-Step Implementation We’ll go through two major phases: Demo project cloning Preparing your Substreams package Executing extraction with your chosen sink Part 1: Project cloning & deps install Download / clone the preconfigured git repository. This includes a prebuilt substream package ready to use for both jsonl and clickhouse. git clone https://github.com/simbadMarino/estaTron Important: This tutorial provides an overview of the steps involved for simplicity. For a comprehensive, detailed explanation and procedure, please consult the README file within the estaTron repository. Project Structure
