The Ethereum Foundation published an article outlining the future vision for the L1 and L2 ecosystem. The post notes that L1 will maintain its role as the global settlement and DeFi hub, while the core mission of L2s has shifted from pure scaling to offering differentiated and customized services. The Foundation advises L2s to achieve at least Stage 1 security standards and encourages them to evolve toward Stage 2, synchronous composability, and "native rollups."
