RWAs Don’t Have a Yield Problem. They Have a Distribution Problem. Real world assets are not short on yield. Treasuries, private credit, trade finance, structured lending. These are not experimental markets. They are deep, established, and measured in trillions. So if the yield already exists, why haven’t RWAs meaningfully scaled onchain? Because the issue isn’t their yield. It’s their distribution. The Legacy Funnel Wasn’t Built for Crypto Traditional access to real-world assets follows a familiar path: onboarding checks, accreditation requirements, minimum investment sizes, lockups, and limited liquidity. That model works for institutions and private banks. It was built for a world of intermediaries and closed networks. Crypto operates differently. Capital is expected to move freely. Assets are expected to be composable. Distribution is digital by default. When you force RWAs through the same legacy funnel, they lose the qualities that make crypto powerful in the first place. That tension explains a lot. Early onchain RWA growth has concentrated in tokenized treasuries because they are relatively simple and liquid. They fit into existing crypto infrastructure. But once you move beyond that into private credit or structured strategies, the old constraints tend to reappear. Accreditation. Minimums. Lockups. Closed fund structures. At that point, you are not building something native to the internet. You are replicating private markets on a blockchain. Any investor willing and able to check all those boxes can simply buy it in the real world. Neobanks Make the Gap Clear Neobanks make this disconnect especially visible. Many now integrate stablecoins or stablecoin rails. They offer clean interfaces and global access. But stablecoins by themselves do not generate yield. Most balances sit idle due to the lack of risk-adjusted onchain yield sources, even though users increasingly expect their deposits to earn yield. If you hold digital dollars today, your choices are fragmented. You can lend into DeFi protocols and take smart contract risk. You can stake volatile tokens and accept price exposure. Or you can move funds back into traditional savings products that run on offchain rails and often offer lower returns. None of these options feel fully integrated. In practice, most neobanks are still balance holders rather than yield distributors. That is the real bottleneck. Rethinking Distribution From the Ground Up For RWAs to scale, the distribution layer has to evolve. Not by copying traditional fund structures, but by rethinking how exposure is packaged and delivered. That could mean permissionless vault structures instead of gated funds. Liquid wrappers instead of long lockups. Transparent onchain accounting instead of opaque reporting. Composable tokens that plug directly into applications rather than sitting in isolated silos. Plume’s Real-World Yield Protocol, Nest, is purpose-built to solve this problem. The idea is simple: build the infrastructure that turns real-world assets into easily distributed yield sources, rather than products that live behind layers of friction. From Neobanks to Neofinance Neobanks do not need to become asset managers. They do not need to originate loans or underwrite credit risk themselves. But they do need infrastructure that allows them to distribute yield natively inside their products. If that layer exists, stablecoin deposits can earn yield enabled by default. Users can earn without constantly moving funds across platforms. Real world assets gain scalable, onchain distribution. That shift is structural. It moves digital finance from static balances toward productive capital. It moves from siloed financial products to composable building blocks. RWAs will not scale simply because they are tokenized. They will scale when distribution becomes native to the internet. Plume Services are not available to U.S. persons or residents.
