VOT3 Token Tutorial: The Governance Layer of VeBetter If you have been earning B3TR through VeBetter apps, you already understand the core exchange: perform a verifiable sustainable action in the real world, get rewarded on-chain. Recycling, EV journeys, eco-conscious purchases - every token you hold is backed by something that actually happened. VOT3 is the next layer. It is VeBetter's governance token, and it answers a different question: who decides which sustainable behaviours get incentivised at scale? Every week, VOT3 holders vote to direct the B3TR emissions pool toward the apps they believe are doing the most credible work. That vote is not abstract. It determines how much funding each app has to reward its users, which shapes how many people are motivated to take the actions those apps track. Your governance participation has a direct line to what gets rewarded in the physical world. This guide covers everything you need to get started: what VOT3 is, how to acquire it, how voting works, how rewards are structured, and what to watch out for along the way. What Is VOT3? VOT3 is the governance token of VeBetterDAO, the decentralised autonomous organisation that runs the VeBetter ecosystem. It has one primary function: it gives holders the right to vote. Every VOT3 holder is a member of VeBetter. The minimum threshold to participate is 1 VOT3. There is no application, no waitlist, no approval process. Hold the token, cast a vote, earn rewards. VOT3 sits at the intersection of two separate voting systems. The first is XAllocation voting: weekly rounds where VOT3 holders direct B3TR emissions toward the apps they believe are generating the most credible, documented sustainability impact. The second is governance proposal voting: on-chain decisions about system parameters, treasury disbursements, and platform-wide policy. Contract address: 0x76Ca782B59C74d088C7D2Cce2f211BC00836c602 How to Acquire VOT3 VOT3 is obtained by converting B3TR at a 1:1 ratio. 100 B3TR becomes 100 VOT3. The conversion happens directly through VeWorld or the VeBetter governance portal. The conversion is reversible, with one important constraint: you can only convert back the VOT3 that you personally generated. VOT3 tokens received from another wallet cannot be converted back to B3TR, so, please plan your conversions accordingly. There is no secondary market arbitrage to account for. The 1:1 peg is hardwired into the contracts. 1. XAllocation Voting: Directing the Emissions Pool Each week, a new XAllocation round opens. Every active VeBetter app competes for a share of that week's B3TR emissions. The size of each app's share is determined entirely by the VOT3 votes it receives. This is the governance mechanism with the most immediate real-world consequence. Apps with larger allocations have more B3TR to distribute, which means more users get rewarded for completing sustainable actions. When you vote for an app focused on EV adoption, or food waste reduction, or responsible consumption, you are amplifying the financial incentive for people to take those actions. At scale, across 50+ apps and a growing user base, the allocation vote shapes what sustainable behaviour looks like across the ecosystem. VOT3 holders visit the governance portal at governance.vebetterdao.org, review the competing apps, and cast their votes. You vote once per round, but you can split your allocation across multiple apps in a single transaction. Votes reset at the start of each new round. The system is designed this way deliberately. Returning weekly and re-casting your votes keeps the community engaged and ensures the allocation reflects current sentiment, not historic inertia. Eligibility To vote in XAllocation rounds, your wallet must hold a valid VePassport. That requires completing at least 3 verified sustainable actions within the last 12 rounds (approximately 12 weeks). The requirement is intentional: the people directing the emissions pool should be active participants in the mission, not passive token holders. Stay active in any VeBetter app and you will maintain eligibility automatically. A snapshot of VOT3 holdings and VePassport status is taken at the start of each round. VOT3 converted after the snapshot counts toward the following week. Quorum Each round has a quorum requirement. Currently, 1% of the total VOT3 supply must participate for the results to be valid. If quorum is not reached, the distribution defaults to the percentages from the last valid round. Participation has collective weight: low turnout affects the whole community, not just individual rewards. 2. Governance Proposal Voting: Shaping the Platform Beyond weekly allocation rounds, VOT3 holders vote on governance proposals. These are formal on-chain decisions covering treasury expenditures, contract parameter changes, and broader platform policy. The GM Rewards Pool itself - the mechanism that pays out extra rewards to NFT holders who vote - was created through a governance proposal that passed in April 2025. The community proposed it, voted on it, and it was executed on-chain. That is the system working as designed: participants shaping the infrastructure that rewards participation. Two Types of Proposals Actionable Proposals trigger a direct on-chain consequence when passed. This typically means transferring funds from the treasury or executing a specific contract call. These proposals carry real weight and real consequences. Non-Actionable Proposals record a formal community position without triggering automatic execution. Approval signals intent and direction; the implementation requires subsequent development or coordination. The Proposal Process Every proposal moves through three phases. Support phase: Before a proposal goes live, the community runs a temperature check. Members deposit VOT3 tokens to signal support. A minimum deposit threshold (calculated as a percentage of total B3TR supply) must be reached within the waiting period. If it is not, the proposal is cancelled automatically. Deposited VOT3 is locked during this period but still counts toward your XAllocation voting power in concurrent rounds. Approval phase: Once the deposit threshold is met, a snapshot of all VOT3 balances is taken and voting opens. Holders vote YES, AGAINST, or ABSTAIN. Each voter commits 100% of their voting power to the proposal. Voting remains open for the duration of the round. Outcome and Execution. When voting closes, if the quorum is reached and the majority voted in favour, the proposal succeeds. A Timelock mechanism adds a delay before on-chain execution, giving the community time to review before changes go live. To Submit a Proposal Submitting a proposal requires two things: a GM Moon NFT (Level 2 or above) and an active discussion thread on the VeChain Discourse forum, opened at least 3 days before submission. The Discourse requirement exists to surface community feedback before proposals reach the chain. 3. How VOT3 Rewards Work Voting earns rewards. There are two separate pools. Vote2Earn Pool Every cycle, the Vote2Earn Pool distributes B3TR to VOT3 holders who cast a valid vote. The reward model is linear: your share is proportional to your VOT3 balance at the time of the snapshot, relative to all VOT3 submitted during that cycle. Example from the docs: a voter holding 10,000 VOT3 in a cycle where total submitted VOT3 is 5,300,000, with a Vote2Earn pool of 1,000,000 B3TR, earns approximately 1,886.79 B3TR. That is 0.1887% of the pool. More VOT3 at snapshot time = a larger share. Voting is required to be eligible - holding without voting earns nothing. GM Rewards Pool The GM Rewards Pool distributes 5% of weekly B3TR emissions to Galaxy Member (GM) NFT holders who vote during the cycle. Your share is determined by your NFT's reward weight. Each tier carries a multiplier: GM NFT upgrades are purchased with B3TR. VeChain Node holders receive free upgrades, connecting the broader VeChain community into the reward structure. The GM Rewards Pool activates only when you vote. A high-tier NFT earns nothing in a cycle where its holder does not vote. 4. Common Missteps to Avoid Missing the snapshot. VOT3 holdings are snapshotted at the start of each allocation round. Converting B3TR to VOT3 after the snapshot pushes you to the following week's cycle. Convert with enough lead time if you are targeting a specific round. Losing VePassport eligibility. Three verified sustainable actions within any 12-round window is all it takes to maintain your VePassport. Let it lapse and your XAllocation votes will not earn rewards. Stay active in at least one app. Expecting received VOT3 to be convertible. Only the VOT3 you personally converted from B3TR can be swapped back. Tokens received from other wallets are governance-only. Do not plan around converting them. Assuming the GM NFT earns passively. It does not. The multiplier activates only when paired with an active vote in a given cycle. Skip a week, earn nothing from that pool that week. Falling for unofficial support. Any unsolicited message claiming to be VeBetter or VeChain support (on Discord, Telegram, X, or anywhere else) is a scam. Official resources are vebetter.com and docs.vebetterdao.org. No one from VeChain will ever ask for your seed phrase. The Compounding Logic The mechanics reward long-term, consistent participants over short-term maximisers. Earning B3TR through app participation funds GM NFT upgrades. Higher NFT tiers increase reward weight in the GM pool. Converting a portion of earned B3TR to VOT3 increases your Vote2Earn share. Voting every cycle, across both XAllocation rounds and governance proposals, maximises both pools. What that flywheel produces, at a system level, is a community that is financially incentivised to stay engaged with the apps driving real-world sustainability outcomes. The people earning the most from governance are the same people directing capital toward the strongest apps, maintaining their VePassport through ongoing sustainable actions, and reinvesting rewards into deeper participation. The model does not separate financial return from mission alignment. It builds them into the same loop. VeBetter is built for people who show up regularly.
