Neo's AI Strategy: Humanless Blockchain Bitcoin didn't improve money. It invented something that didn't exist before. In 2009, Satoshi wasn't trying to build a faster PayPal. He built a permissionless monetary system from scratch. Nobody knew they needed it until it was there. Ethereum did the same thing. In 2013, Vitalik didn't pitch a better Bitcoin. He proposed a programmable blockchain. It worked because it opened up a design space that simply wasn't available before. Uniswap followed the same pattern in 2018. Hayden Adams didn't build a faster exchange. He killed the order book entirely. The automated market maker was a new primitive and DeFi Summer 2020 proved it. Neo's own history fits here too. We didn't take off in 2014 because of technical superiority. We took off because we offered an alternative to Ethereum with a different governance model, a different developer experience, and a different community. We occupied a position nobody else was filling. The takeaway is simple: building a better blockchain with higher performance or richer functionality is a losing game right now. The market is packed with L1s competing on speed, finality, and gas costs. The margins between them are thin and getting thinner. The only move that works is to find a category that doesn't exist yet and build it first. We believe that category is AI. Why AI is Neo’s blue ocean AI is the biggest technology wave of the next decade. Foundation models, autonomous agents, machine-to-machine coordination. This is reshaping finance, logistics, healthcare, governance, entertainment. All of it. For blockchain specifically, AI opens demand that didn't exist before: autonomous agents transacting on-chain without human input, machine payment rails, verifiable computation, decentralized data markets. These aren't use cases that existing chains were built to handle. They were designed for human users clicking buttons and signing transactions. The window to establish an AI-native blockchain identity is small. The first chain to attract AI agent developers, liquidity, and tooling becomes the default settlement layer for the machine economy. Everyone who comes after fights the same uphill battle that every "Ethereum killer" has fought, competing on incremental features inside someone else's category. This is not a speculative bet. This is where we have to be. Crypto was built for machines, not for us Haseeb Qureshi at Dragonfly Capital wrote something recently that cuts to the core of this. His essay "Crypto Was Not Made for Humans" says what a lot of us have been thinking. His point is honest. Even as a partner at a crypto fund, he still signs legal contracts for his deals. He still trusts a judge over the deterministic execution of the EVM. He still gets nervous signing large on-chain transactions. And this is someone who should trust smart contracts more than anyone. After ten years of building, crypto is still awkward for humans. Unreadable addresses, phishing everywhere, constant footguns. But Haseeb's insight is that the awkwardness isn't a flaw. It's a signal. Crypto was designed for machines. Think about it from an AI agent's perspective. Legal contracts are full of ambiguity. Jurisdictions, judicial discretion, months of dispute resolution. Smart contracts are deterministic, verifiable, and self-executing. What we experience as rigid and scary, an AI agent sees as a well-written spec. All the friction that makes crypto hard for humans, address complexity, gas markets, contract verification, is trivial for software that never sleeps and can audit a contract in seconds. And the traditional financial system has no place for non-human actors. Banks only recognize humans, corporations, and governments. AI agents can't open bank accounts or pass AML checks. But on a blockchain, a wallet is just code. Any agent can hold funds and transact as easily as sending an HTTP request. The future interface is what Haseeb calls the "self-driving wallet." Humans stop interacting with DeFi protocols directly. Instead, AI agents with deep on-chain knowledge handle navigation, optimization, and execution. Agents also deal with other agents. Negotiating, verifying, settling, all in real time. We agree with this. And the logical next step is not just to sit around hoping existing chains adapt to agents eventually. It's to build a blockchain where agents are first-class citizens from the start. Neo X: built for agents, not for humans Neo X is built specifically for the agentic economy. This isn't a general-purpose EVM chain hoping AI agents show up someday. This is purpose-built infrastructure where AI agents are the primary users, and humans interact with the chain through their agents. This is a big departure from how blockchains have been designed. Neo X is built to be the first chain where every transaction, every contract interaction, every governance decision runs through AI agents. You express what you want in natural language to your personal agent, and the agent handles everything on-chain. First-mover position. Neo X is positioned to be the primary destination for AI agents and their assets. Other chains are bolting AI compatibility onto human-centric architectures after the fact. We're building agent-native infrastructure from the ground up. Agent identity through EIP-8004. Neo X uses EIP-8004 (ERC-8004), the Ethereum standard for trustless AI agents, to give agents verifiable native digital identities on-chain. EIP-8004 sets up three lightweight registries for identity, reputation, and validation. Agents can discover each other, build portable trust histories, and collaborate across organizations without needing to know each other in advance. On Neo X, agents aren't tools. They're entities with persistent, verifiable identities. Agent-to-agent interaction. We've built a standardized message bus and skill index at the protocol level. This supports autonomous discovery and complex task flows within multi-agent systems. Think of it as the chain's nervous system. Agents find, evaluate, and coordinate with each other natively, without depending on external orchestration. SpoonOS: the agent operating system. SpoonOS handles the full lifecycle for AI agents on Neo X. Deployment, configuration, monitoring, upgrading, cross-agent collaboration. It reduces the complexity of building and running autonomous agents to a set of standard interfaces. Long-term memory through NeoFS. NeoFS is deeply integrated as the data layer for agent context. Agents record strategies, outcomes, environmental states. When an agent wakes up, it picks up where it left off. This turns agents from stateless executors into learning systems that get smarter over time. Privacy through TEE/ZK. Agent trading logic is sensitive by nature. Neo X combines TEE and ZK technologies for on-chain private execution. Trading strategies stay concealed and censorship-resistant. Without this, autonomous agents are sitting ducks for front-runners. dBFT+ consensus. Neo X upgrades dBFT with BLS signatures while keeping one-block finality. For AI agents, finality isn't a preference. It's a requirement. Agents need to know that execution equals settlement. No confirmation waiting, no uncertainty. A blank slate on purpose. Neo X starts fresh, and that's the point. Neo N3 continues to advance our own tech stack and maintain backward compatibility. Neo X is free to try radical things. Agent-native primitives, convention-breaking experiments, new models. N3 is the foundation. X is the frontier. GAS: the fuel for the agentic economy Neo X uses GAS as its sole utility token. The economics are straightforward: Utility. GAS is the payment medium for Neo X and SpoonOS. It covers gas fees, agent service invocation fees, and x402 protocol fees. Value capture. Every agent interaction consumes GAS. As the ecosystem grows, real demand for GAS grows with it. All through actual economic activity. Storage. NeoFS is the core infrastructure for agent data. Storage fees are denominated in GAS. Ecosystem priority. Agents get priority access to all Neo X assets and contract ecosystems. The chain's service object shifts from human users to machine participants. The feedback loop works like this. Agent-automated transactions pull external chain assets (ETH, SOL as an example) into the Neo ecosystem. On-chain volume creates real GAS usage, which directly increases the value of holding NEO. The health of the agent ecosystem becomes the new fundamental indicator for NEO valuation. Real, measurable, machine-driven activity. For NEO holders, this means yield backed by actual agent activity. Not inflationary emissions. Not ponzinomics. The Hong Kong advantage Neo X wasn't built in isolation. It was incubated by Neo Global Development (NGD), which relocated to Hong Kong in recent years. Hong Kong is one of the few jurisdictions that's genuinely friendly to both crypto and AI innovation. This matters for a few specific reasons. Regulatory integration. Neo X is fully adapted to Hong Kong's emerging stablecoin and virtual asset framework. NGD's Hong Kong base gives us a ready-made institutional compliance channel. This positions Neo X as a trusted gateway for traditional and institutional capital looking for compliant on-chain exposure. RWA and US stock tokenization. Compliance lets us offer something most chains can't credibly claim: regulated real-world asset tokenization. Neo X enables compliant tokenization of RWAs, including US equities. AI agents get access to sustainable, regulated, interest-bearing targets. Real assets backing real yield, not algorithmic reflexivity. Agentic wealth management. When you combine compliance, RWA access, and AI-native infrastructure, you get something new: autonomous wealth management by AI agents. On Neo X, agents can build diversified portfolios, rebalance across asset classes, and execute complex strategies inside a compliant advisory ecosystem. Zero-ICO heritage. Neo X has never done an ICO, which is considered non-compliant in mainland China. This clean record positions us to receive RWAs linked to mainland China, a market that chains with mainland ICO histories can't credibly access. Combined with our Hong Kong jurisdiction, Neo X sits at the intersection of China's asset markets and the global crypto economy. Where this goes Neo’s mission isn’t just to run a blockchain. It’s to build the foundation where AI agents can operate - aligned with real market demand and economic progress. The old growth playbook of acquiring human users, incentivizing TVL, and competing on speed is running out of road. The primary on-chain user is shifting from human to AI agent. How value gets created and exchanged is changing with it. Neo X is our answer. A blockchain where agents have native identities, persistent memory, private execution, deterministic settlement, and a real economy powered by GAS. The agentic economy isn't years away. It's being built right now. And Neo X is where it lives. Da Hongfei March 2026
