02/06 Discord Team Takeover - Recap w/ Jean-Philippe Melanson! 1/ What is it about Blockchain that makes it a good fit for Sapien? JP: Blockchain is an excellent fit for a Proof of Quality protocol because: Immutability ensures quality records: attestations cannot be altered once written Transparency allows anyone to verify claims independently Cryptographic signatures provide tamper-proof provenance and authorship Combined with decentralized consensus, these properties eliminate reliance on centralized gatekeepers, prevent retroactive falsification and enable trustless, persistent, verifiable quality assertions at scale. Blockchain enables Sapien to provide the Quality signal necessary for the AI economy!! 2/ What’s the best use case for blockchain that hasn’t caught on yet? JP: The killer blockchain use case that hasn't gone mainstream yet: a permanent, unchangeable record showing exactly where AI training data came from and every step it took—so we can trust AI answers, catch made-up stuff, hold systems accountable, and actually believe what AI tells us in everyday life. Happens to be exactly what we are building!!! 3/ With Proof of Quality, what exactly gets stored onchain? JP: I'm not sure I can tell you that... actually, yes I can it will be public forever! In Sapien Protocol, the actual task data (like images, text answers, or annotations) stays off-chain—usually on IPFS or similar storage. What gets permanently recorded on the blockchain (on Base network) is just lightweight proof stuff: task details who did the work a hash (fingerprint) of the submitted data so anyone can verify it later validation scores from peers average quality score staking/slashing events rewards claimed reputation history This keeps everything transparent, cheat-proof, and trustless without clogging the chain with huge files. 4/ Give us a screenshot of what you’re building right now pretty please! 😆 JP: hopefully you are going to love using this upcoming web app... super easy flow 5/ What learning resources do you recommend to somebody who knows a lot about AI but little about crypto? JP: For beginners new to crypto, start with Coinbase Learn for simple, bite-sized lessons with small token rewards. Read about the Base blockchain. Try Binance Academy, Bitget Academy, Revolut Learn or CoinMarketCap Earn—all easy articles, videos, and clear explanations of basics like buying, wallets, and avoiding scams. Watch free YouTube crash courses such as "How I'd Start Crypto in 2026" for current step-by-step guidance. A more tailored approach might also be to fire up your favorite AI engine, like ChatGPT or Grok and ask it to teach your "What do I need to know as a beginner to use the Base blockchain". Then you can ask any follow up question you want and it will pick your pace! Overall, I think the upcoming Sapien system will be super easy to use for crypto beginners! 6/ How detailed can the audit be that proof of quality provides? JP: The onchain audit is a compact, verifiable record of who validated and what score they gave, not a full written report. For each piece of work, the blockchain stores: the final consensus score (a single 0–100% number) how many validators participated each validator’s individual score and stake a hash that points to the work (like a fingerprint—you can check it matches, but the actual content stays offchain) You don’t get written feedback, rubric breakdowns, or detailed reasoning onchain; you get a tamper‑proof proof that a group of staked validators reached a consensus score, which you can use for compliance, provenance, or trust without exposing the underlying data. 7/ Choose one industry that you could make a single change to, what would it be and why? JP: AI!!! Mandate open-weight models for all frontier systems above a certain capability threshold (e.g., beyond current GPT-4 level). It would prevent dangerous concentration of power in a few closed corporations, accelerate safety research through broad scrutiny, enable competition and innovation outside Big Tech, and reduce existential risk by distributing control rather than hoarding it. 8/ Who is your personal idol? JP: 2 fellow french canadians: ice hockey star 🏒 Mario Lemieux & AI pioneer Yoshua Bengio 🧠, Mario is because of pure passion and dominance in his sport And Yoshua for all his academic achievements and history as an immigrant that is very inspiring
