Big Mob is not just online cancellation, it's also the Taiping Rebellion, the later stages of the French Revolution, large-scale religious witch hunts, etc. Basically, the sort of thing that authoritarians sometimes justify themselves as being a bulwark against. Big Corporations, Government and Mob are all in some sense like taking a neural network, and then setting one of the parameters to +999999999. Over-zealous localism is more like spaghetti code that refuses to be garbage-collected. It's the opposite failure mode.
