We just paid our creative agency onchain, without leaking the contract amount Recently, this post on X went viral, and for good reason: it’s ridiculous. Paying someone onchain shouldn’t give them a free peek into your balances or your entire transaction history. Indeed, until today, paying onchain came with an absurd tradeoff: your payment amount and balances become public forever. It’s not acceptable for running a business onchain. Because once payment data is public, it’s not “transparency”, it’s leakage: anyone can infer contract sizes and vendor rates negotiating becomes nearly impossible (every past invoice becomes an anchor) your wallet becomes a public balance sheet In other words: paying onchain shouldn’t require doxxing your financials or your company’s position. A real transaction, on mainnet This week, we paid our creative agency onchain with Confidential USDT (cUSDT) on Zama Protocol mainnet. https://etherscan.io/tx/0x80e45459246e2e50ee75b0ff1aa95139819680e6218c0e4e54e3379476968b37 What’s special isn’t that we paid in a stablecoin, that’s normal. What’s special is that the transfer was confidential: the payment amount isn’t public the balances involved aren’t exposed as public business metadata It’s the onchain equivalent of paying by bank transfer without publishing the invoice for everyone to see. How it works Using the Zama Protocol, you can now shield any asset (e.g., USDT) into a confidential form (cUSDT) and then send them with a confidential transfer, so settlement happens onchain, but sensitive financial details don’t leak. Why this matters If blockchains are going to power the commerce infrastructure of tomorrow, they need a default that matches reality: Businesses don’t want privacy to “hide wrongdoing.” They want privacy to function so they can: pay vendors without broadcasting rates pay creators without sparking comparisons fund teams without exposing runway run deals without giving competitors a live dashboard Confidentiality isn’t a niche feature anymore. It’s basic infrastructure for business running on blockchains. The work deserves attention. The amount paid doesn’t.
