Taiko Takes🥡 @DappRadar shut down this week after seven years, citing financial unsustainability. The platform tracked over 18,000 dApps across 93 blockchains, served 500,000 monthly users, and raised $7.33 million in funding. Most analyses will focus on the funding environment or token price. The real story is about business models. Analytics platforms provide data that everyone uses but few will pay for. Tracking more blockchains means higher infrastructure costs, but more coverage doesn't translate to more revenue. The value is real, capturing it is just structurally difficult. Data aggregation is valuable but easy to replicate. When multiple platforms offer similar tracking, pricing power disappears. Infrastructure that controls sequencing, settlement, or compliance has defensible business models. Infrastructure that observes and reports faces harder economics. DappRadar built something genuinely useful for seven years. The challenge is that markets struggle to sustain analytics platforms without continuous external funding. The founders were right that the mission to help people explore and understand decentralized applications shouldn't end. Whoever fills that gap will need to solve the economics problem, not just the product problem. Infrastructure survives when its value proposition is embedded in the architecture, not layered on top as an observation service.
