Building a TRON-Ready Mobile PWA with TronLink Deeplinks If you’re building a Web3 experience for mobile, you’ve likely hit the gap between ‘nice desktop dApp’ and ‘actually usable on a phone’. This article shows a practical way to bridge that gap on TRON by combining a Progressive Web App (PWA) with TronLink’s Deeplinks. We’ll walk through the architecture, what’s inside the demo repository, and how to run it locally to enable login, message signing, and TRX transfers from a mobile PWA. Why a PWA for Mobile Web3? A Progressive Web App (PWA) lets you deliver an app-like experience via the browser: installable, offline-capable (via a service worker), and fast to load. For crypto dApps, PWAs are attractive because you can ship updates without app-store releases while still offering a near-native UX. PWAs also run on Android and iOS (with caveats), which reduces platform overhead. The TRON Wallet Adapter & the Deeplink Gap The TRON ecosystem offers the tronwallet-adapter to unify wallet integrations. However, as of September 2025, it does not provide out‑of‑the‑box handling for TronLink mobile deeplinks. In practice, this means you need a little glue to send an action request to TronLink (login, sign, transfer) and then receive the result back inside your PWA. That glue is a small callback service (the demo uses WebSocket) that catches TronLink’s response and forwards it to your PWA session. The result is a reliable round‑trip flow that feels smooth on mobile. What Are Deeplinks (and Why TronLink’s Matter)? A mobile ‘deeplink’ is a special URL that launches an app and routes the user to a specific action or screen. TronLink exposes deeplinks for actions like logging in, signing a message, or sending TRX. Your PWA crafts a deeplink with parameters (including your callback URL), hands control to TronLink, and then waits for a response on the callback server. When the wallet action completes (success or error), your PWA UI updates accordingly. Demo Overview: next-app-tron-pwa Repository: https://github.com/simbadMarino/next-app-tron-pwa This Next.js demo shows how to: Launch TronLink via deeplink from a mobile PWA Log in and fetch the user’s wallet address Sign arbitrary messages Transfer TRX Route responses through a lightweight callback server over WebSocket Core Features (from the repo) Login to TronLink (✅) Sign Message (✅) Transfer (✅) Callback server example via WebSocket (✅) Open Wallet / Open dApp (planned) Sign Transaction (planned) tronwallet-adapter compatibility (planned) Android support (✅), iOS support (planned) Project Structure (What’s inside) High level folders and files: pages/ – Next.js routes, including the PWA’s main UI public/ – PWA assets (manifest.json, icons, service worker) utils/ – helper code including callback-server.js and Tronlink deeplink utilities styles/ – global and module CSS next.config.js, tsconfig.json – framework configs How the Flow Works User opens your PWA on a mobile device (served over HTTPS). They tap a button (e.g., “TronLink DeepLink Login”). The PWA constructs a TronLink deeplink with action and a callback URL. The mobile OS switches to TronLink and shows the confirmation UI. User approves or rejects the action in TronLink. TronLink calls back your server with the result. Your PWA receives the result via WebSocket and updates the UI (e.g., show wallet address, signature, or transaction hash). Running the Demo Locally Clone: git clone https://github.com/simbadMarino/next-app-tron-pwa && cd next-app-tron-pwa Install deps: npm install Create env file for the callback server URL: cp .env.sample .env, then edit .env Start the callback server: cd utils && node callback-server.js Start the PWA dev server in another terminal: npm run dev Open the dev URL on your Android device or emulator and try Login, Sign Message, or Transfer Login to your Tronlink mobile app by clicking on "Tronlink DeepLink Login" button, a pop-up like the following should appear Confirm Login and go back to Dapp You should see your Tronlink Wallet address now in your PWA UI (Obtained from callback server) Now you can test either Signing a message or transferring TRX by using the SignMessage and Transfer buttons Key Implementation Notes Use a trusted HTTPS origin for your PWA, many wallet integrations and service workers require secure contexts. Keep the callback server reachable from the mobile device (public tunnel or LAN). Correlate requests and responses with a session ID or nonce to avoid mismatches. Use WebSocket (as in the demo) or Server‑Sent Events/long polling if WebSocket is unavailable. Handle error cases gracefully, surface wallet rejections and timeouts in the UI. Security Considerations Validate all callback payloads server‑side. Reject malformed or unexpected data. Protect against replay: include nonces and short‑lived tokens in your deeplink/callback protocol. Store as little as possible, avoid persisting sensitive data. Show the full action summary to users before handing off to TronLink. Log debug info server‑side, but avoid logging private keys or signatures. Android vs iOS The demo currently focuses on Android. iOS support is on the roadmap; Safari PWA behaviors and deeplink handling can differ from Android, so plan to test UI transitions, backgrounding/foregrounding, and callback timing on iOS separately. Bringing tronwallet-adapter into the Picture As wallet-adapter ecosystems evolve, aim to encapsulate deeplink logic behind an adapter layer. That lets you swap between mobile deeplinks and desktop extensions without rewriting business logic. The demo keeps deeplink code cleanly isolated so it’s easier to drop into your adapter implementation later. Troubleshooting Tips Nothing happens after tapping a button: verify the deeplink URL format and that TronLink is installed. No response in the PWA: confirm the callback server is reachable from the device and that WebSocket is connected. Wrong address shows up: ensure you’re reading the response for the correct session/nonce. Transfers fail: double‑check the network, account balance, and required permissions in TronLink. No “Install PWAl” button is shown in UI: Make sure your UI is using secure connection (https), PWA installs are auto-blocked for http Where to Go from Here Use this demo as a springboard: add token approvals, TRC‑20 transfers, and transaction signing; abstract deeplinks behind a reusable adapter; and harden your callback service. With a PWA foundation, you can iterate quickly and ship features without waiting on app‑store cycles. Resources Demo repo TronLink Deeplinks docs PWA basics (MDN)
