The Third Cohort of the Decentralized Nodes Program: Building Resilience, One Node at a Time Polkadot’s strength lies in its design, but its resilience depends on its people. With the launch of the third cohort of the Decentralized Nodes Program, that foundation just got stronger. 1. What Is the Decentralized Nodes Program? It's an initiative by the Web3 Foundation to strengthen Polkadot’s validator network. It supports independent node operators around the world (both new and experienced) by nominating their validators for a fixed period. 2. A Step Forward in Decentralization The third cohort launched on September 10, 2025. The program selected 99 Polkadot nodes operated by 57 independent teams across the globe. The goal: ensure Polkadot’s validator set remains geographically and technically diverse. Operators running on different providers, hardware types, and regions form a critical part of Polkadot’s defense against single points of failure. 3. Why It Matters Decentralization is what makes Polkadot resilient in a world where central systems fail under pressure. When validators are spread across continents, powered by diverse infrastructure, the network can’t be censored or taken down by local outages or political disruptions. It keeps running, no matter what. That’s resilience by design. 4. Behind the Selection Applications were evaluated on hardware specs, reliability, technical skill, and commitment to Polkadot’s ecosystem. Preference was given to setups in underrepresented regions and operators using less common hosting providers or self-hosting infrastructure. This balance ensures that Polkadot’s validation layer reflects its global community, not a cluster of servers in a single data center. 5. The Benefit for Builders and Users A resilient network gives developers and users confidence that what they build or store on Polkadot stays secure and online. Decentralized nodes make sure blocks keep producing, governance stays active, and cross-chain connections remain open. 6. A Living System Each cohort is both an experiment and a commitment to continuous improvement. By listening to operator feedback, refining selection criteria, and expanding access, Polkadot moves closer to its vision of a truly decentralized web.
