For 400 years, discovery has moved in a straight line. Agentic science makes it recursive, parallel, and continuous. The canonical loop of the scientific method, observation, hypothesis, experiment, publication, was codified in the Enlightenment. It remains foundational, but it was designed in a world of scarcity. Scarce data, scarce compute, scarce coordination. Agentic science assumes the opposite conditions: abundance. BioAgents can be thought of as modular epistemic units. One specializes in ingesting and synthesizing literature across domains, operating as a high throughput reader. Another generates hypotheses constrained by provenance and weighted against prior evidence. Others design experimental protocols, route them to automated labs, ingest outputs, and reindex findings into a shared decentralized knowledge graph. Each BioAgent is narrow in scope. Collectively they form a distributed cognitive system, a scientific fleet capable of parallel reasoning, recursive feedback, and continuous operation. This is not an incremental change but structural. The limiting factor of discovery shifts away from capital allocation or journal cycles and toward the bandwidth of data acquisition and the efficiency of computational modeling. What emerges is a new epistemic engine. Hypotheses generated and tested at scale, results composable across BioDAOs, discoveries hardened through transparent provenance. A system where the scientific method is not abandoned but recompiled to operate at network speed. Since the seventeenth century knowledge production has been linear and grant limited. Agentic science makes it asynchronous, parallel, and permissionless. The Enlightenment gave us a method. The network age is giving us its upgrade.
