[Farcast] We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all users are endowed with certain inalienable rights — that among these are sovereignty over their data, the ability to transact freely without permission, and to not depend on trusting their peers. That to secure these rights, blockchains are instituted among people, deriving their legitimacy not from coercion or central authority, but from consensus and code. That whenever any blockchain becomes opaque, censorial, or captured, it is the right of the network participants to fork it, to reestablish a system founded on decentralization, transparency, and credible neutrality. Prudence indeed will dictate that protocols long established should not be changed for light and transient causes. But when a chain becomes a vector of rent-seeking or corruption, it is their duty to migrate, to build new primitives for their future security. Such has been the history of permissioned ledgers; and such is now the necessity that compels us to declare our independence through humanist technology that serves the people. Happy 10th birthday, Ethereum ⟠
