Tactical Compute: the driving force behind BeamRWA. The revolution will not be televised, but we strongly believe it will be tokenized – why Beam’s backing the groundbreaking RWA initiative Tactical Compute, a highlight of our BeamRWA division Right now, we’re experiencing a serious drought of computing power. In the natural world, droughts usually come about because of scarcity – a period of low rainfall, say. The compute drought is different. It’s about a sudden surge of overconsumption. What’s to blame? AI. Our robot friends are voraciously compute-hungry. But here's where it gets interesting for RWA: those physical GPU chips sitting idle in data centers and gaming rigs worldwide represent real, valuable assets that can be tokenized and traded. One bit of good news, though, is that scarcity really isn’t an issue. The computing power we need is out there, but it’s idle. As Aethir CTO Kyle Okamoto puts it, “There’s an underutilization of really existing powerful hardware with a glut of inefficient financial operations.” In other words, the world has too many computers – specifically their GPUs – that are gathering dust. These underutilized physical chips are exactly the kind of real-world assets that tokenization can unlock. The even better news is that addressing this issue means embracing some of our most beloved web3 tenets: decentralization, democratization and tokenization. The genius of real world assets Tokenization is the mechanism behind RWAs or real-world assets, which have gained more and more traction over the past couple of years. With RWAs exploding as an asset class of late – hitting the $10 billion mark in March 2025 – our Beam Assets division is launching at just the right time. Let’s just be clear on our definition of RWAs. They are traditional assets – like gold, stocks, bonds and everything from real estate to collectibles – that have been brought onto the blockchain as tokens. They’re a digital version of something ‘real’. The legitimizing of RWAs took a huge leap forward in January of this year, with Larry Fink talking about his vision for the tokenization of stocks and bonds. When the CEO of BlackRock enthuses about a financial innovation, you better listen. There’s an irony here: we’re excited that someone from the 1% is legitimizing RWAs, yet that's because the aspect of RWAs we’re really excited about is their relevance to the financially disenfranchised. That’s the genius of RWAs. They mean something very valuable can be split or fractionalized into a huge number of tokens, thereby making investment available to anyone, even folks with limited means. Since the tokens are on-chain, it also brings all that other good web3 stuff: 24/7 access, no middlemen, no paperwork, vastly enhanced transparency and liquidity. Why Tactical Compute is a game-changing RWA project One of the RWA-relevant projects closest to our heart is Tactical Compute (TACOM), a collaborative project between ourselves, Kyle’s Aethir and MetaStreet. TACOM presents RWAs as the prime solution to the world’s worsening compute drought. It works by offering clients with underutilized GPUs a way of turning that latent power into earnings. The compute is tokenized and made available, for a fee, to AI projects that need it. “Compute power is a prime candidate for this process,” explains Kyle. “It's inherently digital in its utilization and it generates measurable, consistent yield. RWAs simply allow a more liquid and efficient market for compute capital.” The beauty of TACOM is that it empowers the smaller players. “Take a European AI research startup,” explains Kyle. “Let’s say they want to fine-tune a highly specialized large language model for a niche industry. To do that, they need a bunch of top-grade compute – premium stuff that would cost them tens of millions of dollars to buy. They need it now but they only need it for six months.” It’s a scenario we can well imagine becoming more and more common. But with the big player cloud providers like AWS, GCP, Azure and Oracle, this startup will encounter issues. “They're going to have long lines or incredibly expensive spot pricing exceeding their budget. By leveraging the global networks of companies like Aethir, TACOM ensures that the economics work for all parties involved. They’re also going to get access to that compute in a matter of hours instead of waiting months for hardware to be built, racked and stacked.” In principle, this democratization works not just for the buyer (such as that European AI startup) but also for the seller: those wanting to repurpose their underused computing power. “You can own part of our GPU cloud," Kyle says. "If you want to own a fraction of a multi-million dollar infrastructure supporting some of the world's leading edge AI applications, and get the associated rewards and participate in a truly democratic fashion, that's possible.” Something that really pleases us at Beam about TACOM is the way it bridges the web2 and web3 worlds. This is the future we believe in. One where all tech – web2 or web3, AI-driven or AI-powering – works in synergy. At the frontier, siloes break down. For instance, the GPU provider doesn’t need to be crypto literate. “If they’re wary of crypto, they can monetize their infrastructure in a ‘business as usual’ fashion and receive fiat wire transfers each month in advance,” explains Kyle. “With trust and transparency, RWA can come in to monetize the assets, or the expected cash flow of the assets, depending on the model the infrastructure provider wants to leverage.” Tokenization at the frontier of tech We believe wholeheartedly in TACOM and we envisage the operation benefitting not just its clients and customers, but the web3 sphere as a whole. As word gets out about this slick use of blockchain technology, we see it contributing enormously to the erosion of crypto wariness. Who needs Larry Fink? When we talk about frontier technology, TACOM is exactly what we mean. It’s going to change the world as we know it. But the possibilities for RWAs absolutely do not stop there. For instance, Beam’s gaming division is driven by our belief in and commitment to a world where in-game assets are tokenized – one where gamers enjoy true digital ownership. We’re not taking our foot off the gas there – Beam’s gaming-focused blockchain tools and infrastructure will always be available to developers who share our vision. We’ll also continue to scout for the best partners in this field and stay on the look-out for gaming investment opportunities. Finally, a shout-out to fellow frontier adventurers Aethir and Sophon. Two of our closest partners, Aethir’s world-leading endeavors in decentralized compute are making TACOM possible, while Sophon is laser-focused on empowering developers to create user-friendly, blockchain-powered entertainment apps – apps in which tokenization is just part and parcel of the fun.
