How Luganodes helped launching Beam Nodes Beam Nodes (https://nodes.onbeam.com/): what a thrilling challenge it has been to bring this project to the world. It would, of course, be nothing without its collaborators, many of whom are individuals just like you – folks keen to get involved as stakeholders, key contributors to the creation of an exciting decentralized network. Then there are the orgs who have helped us along the way. Naturally, we couldn’t have made Beam Nodes a reality without Avalanche (https://medium.com/@onbeam/how-beam-nodes-pushed-the-boundaries-of-the-avalanche-network-21a87268d361) – as we’ve highlighted in a previous article – and today we want to shout about another organization, the blockchain infrastructure provider Luganodes. A Swiss secret As an organization, Luganodes has a fascinating backstory. Let us take you on a virtual trip to southern Switzerland, to a modestly sized city known as the country’s ‘Little Italy’: Lugano. You may not have heard of Switzerland’s ninth-largest city, but you could spend a lovely long weekend there, enjoying the eponymous lake, neighbouring mountains, Italian-infused culture and cluster of Michelin-starred restaurants. What you might not catch wind of during your stay, though, is one of the city’s more under-the-radar characteristics: its status as an incubator of all things web3 (https://web3.lugano.ch/). “The city has an initiative called Lugano Plan B,” explains Max, business team lead at Luganodes. “The B stands for Bitcoin or blockchain. The initiative is a collaboration between the city and Tether, the stablecoin issuer, with the goal of accelerating blockchain and cryptocurrency adoption on the city level. As a citizen, you can pay your taxes in Bitcoin. The city also has its own stablecoin, attached to the Swiss franc, and you can use it if you go to a restaurant. We, as Luganodes, were born out of this initiative.” Now, the old stereotype goes that things run like clockwork in Switzerland (https://www.bbc.co.uk/travel/article/20120615-travelwise-are-the-swiss-really-that-efficient) – and Luganodes is a shining example. It’s arguably the world's fastest-growing infrastructure provider, with approximately USD$3 billion staked assets across 50 blockchain networks, and Max is not afraid to flag that their standout USP is security and compliance: “It doesn't sound like a very attractive topic,” confesses Max. “But I think it's always better to be safe than sorry, right?” “We’re SOC 2 Type 2 audited. One of the requirements for that is that you run your infrastructure on data centers that have the highest tiers of security and highest tier of fallback plans. For example, if there's no electricity – how would you migrate to a backup node? You have to be ready for edge cases. We were audited by Quantstamp, too, which is a leading web3 security auditor. We’re ISO 2701 compliant and, in the European context, also GDPR compliant.” What Luganodes has done for Beam Nodes 🖼️ https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GnnaFcfXQAAa2vm.jpg The scale of our ambition with Beam Nodes has meant that Luganodes have been more hands-on than they’ve been with other projects. "Our engineers are constantly working to deliver the latest cutting-edge updates and upgrades to Avalanche technology, and I'm in regular contact with them about their progress." says Max. "We ensured a smooth transition by equipping ourselves with the necessary tools." Smooth transition is right. Luganodes have been exceptional at every stage and we’re delighted to say that, with their help, the delegation dashboard is now officially live (https://x.com/luganodes/status/1899887754261258490). One of the neat features that Luganodes have facilitated is the Beam Nodes dual incentive structure, which is defined by the provision of both Beam rewards and the node rewards from the NFT. “That was an interesting feature to work on,” says Max. “We have ensured that the rewards are balanced to fairly compensate validators, stakers, and investors. We have carefully designed the reward flow and balances. I believe that our staking and reward flow system will be quite successful.” Max is enthusiastic about the flexibility Beam Nodes staking offers. “So on the one hand, you can simply delegate your node and your Beam tokens to an existing validator. Let's call that delegated staking. But you can also use a service like Luganodes itself, if you don't want to run it at home. In this case, we would provide the node-as-a-service for a small fee, meaning that you don't have to deal with the technicalities, and you will deploy your node in just a few clicks.” There’s also what Max calls a “hybrid model”. In this instance, says Max, “the investor can outsource the monthly payment in AVAX tokens to a provider like ourselves, meaning you can run the node yourself but that monthly payment can be facilitated by us on a regular basis.” If you choose to enlist Luganodes’ assistance on your Beam Nodes adventure, rest assured that they’re a reliable choice. “We provide institutional-grade service,” reiterates Max. “We're focusing on security compliance and transparency. When it comes to communication, I'm sure we’ll be the right partner for you.” Bear in mind, too, that you can evolve from one set-up to another. “Given that it's adaptable, an enthusiastic individual could safely explore this at home by initially collaborating with an experienced provider like us.” A big thank you to Luganodes for their invaluable Beam Nodes input. We can’t wait to see how the project develops from this point. Want to learn more about Beam?
