AO Mainnet & Legacynet: Improving Network Interoperability With AO Mainnet now available, our focus has shifted to improving the experience for users and developers working across both environments. Last week's updates to AO's core technology (HyperBEAM) improve network interoperability, making it easier to bridge legacynet and mainnet. Last Week's Network Improvements 🔄 Better Network Interoperability Our most important update improves how applications work across both networks. We've updated how legacynet processes are computed in HyperBEAM, specifically adapting them to work better with the converge system. This helps applications communicate more effectively between legacynet and mainnet environments. 🔧 More Reliable Scheduling To support this interoperability, we fixed an issue that was causing scheduler crashes when handling events. Think of it like fixing a traffic light system at the border between two cities, ensuring more reliable operation when moving between network environments. 📊 Better Data Handling We've also added a new deep_merge helper function that improves how complex information is handled. Imagine moving a complicated filing system between offices - this update helps your nested data structures stay properly organized when working across both networks. What This Means For Users These interoperability improvements enhance the AO experience: Better cross-network functionality - Applications can work more reliably across both networks. Apps developed for legacynet can interact with mainnet processes and data with fewer compatibility issues. More reliable data handling - Information transfers more correctly between networks, especially for complex nested data structures that previously might have caused compatibility issues. More consistent experience - You'll notice fewer service interruptions and a more consistent experience as you move between environments, with applications behaving more predictably regardless of which network they're running on. For App Developers These interoperability improvements provide meaningful benefits if you're building on AO: Reduced network-specific issues - The updates help minimize some of the differences in behavior between legacynet and mainnet, reducing the need for certain network-specific workarounds. More flexible deployment options - You can more reliably deploy components of your application across both networks while maintaining better communication between them. Smoother migration path - If you're still transitioning from legacynet to mainnet, you can do so more gradually and with fewer compatibility issues. We recommend testing your applications with these latest updates to see how they improve cross-network compatibility. This allows your users to benefit from mainnet features while maintaining better legacynet compatibility where needed. Technical Details & Next Steps For the technically curious, these improvements include updates to dev_patch:compute to better adapt to the converge system behavior, and a new hb_util:deep_merge helper function that significantly improves how nested data structures are handled. You can find the complete technical details in our GitHub repository at github.com/permaweb/Hyper… These updates are part of our ongoing commitment to improving the cross-network experience. We're already working on additional interoperability enhancements for future releases. We'd love to hear your feedback! If you implement these updates in your applications, please share your experience with us on Discord or through our community forums.
