How Beam Nodes pushed the boundaries of the Avalanche Network With the Beam Nodes launch just around the corner, now’s the time to reveal more about what’s been happening behind the scenes. As the Beam Network is powered by Avalanche, the integration of a network of thousands of nodes wouldn’t have been possible without their support. A new era for the Beam Network 🖼️ https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GlSIxZ7XwAEQkZY.jpg The Beam Network has been live for quite some time now. It has become the home for a wide variety of games to deploy their in-game assets, and to integrate their games to log all in-game accounts and much more. However, the available set of validators was limited, and permissioned. That changes with the introduction of Beam Nodes. When the nodes were first announced, and the Node Token Mint was held, the demand was remarkable. 58,011 Node Tokens have been minted resulting in a total burn of 2,055,165,080 BEAM. This means that, in the foreseeable future, there will be thousands of individuals contributing to the security, authority and longevity of the Beam Network. A new era for the Beam Network is upon us, something that wouldn’t have been possible without the assistance of Avalanche. Raising the standard for Avalanche Networks 🖼️ https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GlSI5sEWMAAwrlY.jpg While the Beam Network is an independent sovereign network, it has been established with the support of the Avalanche network. This delivers high throughput, bulletproof security and a wide range of infrastructure from the get-go, but it also means that we’re dependent on Avalanche for some of the larger adjustments to the network. The creation of an operation like Beam Nodes has never been done by any network within the Avalanche realm. Therefore, both the Beam Foundation and the Avalanche Foundation worked closely with one another to ensure the delivery of the nodes as intended. To illustrate what needed to change, here’s a list: Updates to the Avalanche client to support ledger-based multisig. Contributed to the ACP-99 (https://github.com/avalanche-foundation/ACPs/tree/main/ACPs/99-validatorsetmanager-contract) standard for custom validator manager contracts. Customization of the validator manager contract based on the ACP-99 standard to accommodate NFT node licenses. Creating a custom relayer to support the following: Abstraction of the P-Chain interactions, so a validator only has to interact with the validator manager contract on the Beam L1. Beam Foundation sponsoring validator fees. 5. Step-by-step migration from Proof-of-Authority to Proof-of-Stake. Usually an atomic action, now split up in multiple steps. As one can imagine, adjustments at the highest level of the Avalanche network aren’t handled lightly, and therefore constant alignment occurred with the Avalanche Foundation and its community. Where usually these proposals require a long time to implement, the process has been sped up to accommodate the timelines that were set by the Beam Foundation. Time to delegate The moment for Beam Nodes to go live is right around the corner now. Immediately after this takes place, the ability to delegate will become available.. Anyone that owns BEAM tokens or Node Tokens can access the delegation dashboard, pick a node they would like to delegate towards, and thereafter enjoy the rewards that are associated with Beam Nodes (https://medium.com/@onbeam/introducing-beam-nodes-379f08bf3882). Expect full documentation and tutorials coming soon on every aspect, from setting up a node, to onboarding delegators, and/or delegating yourself. Want to learn more about Beam?
