Meet Noon, the fair & intelligent new stablecoin Arpan Gautam describes his career to date as “pretty boring” but you might not think so to hear his goals for the long-term future – goals that involve him bridging the gap between the world’s rich and poor. That’s all. Nothing major. “Our vision is to give every single human being access to a yield-generating liquid asset,” says Gautam. “Those two elements – stable yield-bearing and liquid – normally only come together for people and organizations who already have a lot of funds at their disposal, right? You know, big corporations who can tie up their entire treasury in T-bills and then use that as collateral. We want to open this up to every single person in the world, because this lack of access contributes to the rich constantly getting richer and everyone else being left behind.” With that ‘our’, Gautam is referring to himself and the rest of the team behind Noon (https://www.noon.capital/), the new stablecoin that is firing these lofty ambitions. Yes, that’s right: a stablecoin. Aren’t there already lots of those? you might be thinking. You wouldn’t be wrong. But then there are a lot of memecoins, too, yet when someone like Flaunch comes along with an interesting spin (https://medium.com/@onbeam/if-youve-got-it-flaunch-it-why-crypto-needs-this-memecoin-launchpad-fb325e54a93f), we listen. And what Noon are doing for stablecoins is a bit special. Check it out (https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/noon-usn). “Two elements set us apart: our intelligence and our fairness,” explains Gautam. “If you look at any other stablecoin out there, they aren't able to reach the fairness that we have. Take some of the bigger ones – USDT, for instance, which is, first of all, not yield-generating. It doesn't return any value to its users other than the fact that they have a tokenized pegged stable asset. The people who benefit the most from the USDT return strategy are the team and investors of USDT.” What about USDC? “Well, they've tried to have some staking rewards and things like that, but that's only beneficial to you under very specific circumstances, like if you stake on Coinbase, et cetera, et cetera. We return as much value as possible to our users. We’re tired of protocol users being treated as exit liquidity for early investors and the team. So we decided to avoid investors entirely – the only way to get tokens is to build Noon (around 20% of tokens) or use Noon (about 65–80% of tokens). Moreover, over 90% of our raw returns are distributed back to our users, either via our staked stablecoin, sUSN, or our upcoming staked governance token, sNOON.” Then there’s the ‘intelligence’ factor. “A lot of the other stablecoins that have popped up are one-trick ponies, relying on a single deployment strategy, like US Treasury bills, to generate yield. And that's where we think a lot of them fall down on the intelligence front. For example, for stablecoins backed by US Treasury bills, this high-interest-rate environment won’t persist. What are those stablecoins going to do then? I don't think I've heard a really great answer yet for any of these single deployment strategy stables. Noon, on the other hand, deploys assets across a basket of safe, secure, delta-neutral deployment strategies. This allows Noon the ability to re-allocate funds to generate the highest yield possible in all market conditions. We think that allows users to rest easy, knowing that their funds are always earning the top stable yields.” Keeping the copycats at bay 🖼️ https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Gkt9mQZW8AAq1rp.jpg While Gautam and the Noon team have gone out of their way to avoid copycatting existing stablecoins, what’s to stop a young upstart from copying them? “That would be very challenging in a couple of different ways,” says Gautam. “First, it’s hard to self-fund a protocol like this – and we were uniquely positioned to do so. Without this, without turning our backs to the typical VC / investor world, our fairness is impossible to replicate. Second, it's challenging from a computational perspective, because we have a proprietary algorithm that tells us what to do and when to do it in terms of allocations. Third, it's complicated execution wise – we as a team, in some shape or form, have been trading delta-neutral strategies, like funding rate arbitrage, for six or seven plus years. So we have a lot of insight into exactly how these strategies behave, how they operate, and how we can maximize return and minimize risk. That can get quite complex for someone trading by themselves, or even a team starting to trade by themselves.” Maximum security protocol 🖼️ https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Gkt9rpAXoAAZ-Jz.jpg Another backbone for the new stablecoin is security. “We are the first stablecoin to release an independent, live proof of solvency,” explains Gautam. “So you can go to our partner’s website (https://noon.accountable.capital/) and, in real time, see exactly what our current supply is, what our reserve position is and where our reserves are held anytime you want. You can see for yourself that those funds are actually held by us and there've been no big losses.” There’s more. “We've designed a process in which funds are always held in as secure of a mechanism as possible. So what does that mean? That means that our funds are always held by certified, compliant custodians or regulated, licensed, fully insured trad-fi brokers. And for every single dollar worth of our stablecoin that’s circulating in supply, we have a dollar of reserve backing it at all times.” Big ambitions, big airdrops There’s a phrase you hear a version of very often in web3. It’ll be some combination of ‘onboarding’, ‘million’, ‘users’ and ‘tipping point’ and it describes that moment in the oh-so-near (we hope) future when crypto attains mainstream adoption and the industry’s major players see their dreams come true. Naturally, these dreams usually involve a generous helping of profit. For Gautam, it’s a bit different. Yes he wants a billion users but, as already discussed, that’s as much for their own sakes as for his. So how is Noon going to achieve it? “I'll be very transparent,” Gautam begins. “If I said right now, ‘Hey, we're ready for a billion people’, that wouldn't be accurate. But we know what our future vision is: we want mainstream web2 adoption and we’re putting the user first at every stage to make sure we get there. Our industry often caters to a sophisticated user who's used to very complex interactions. We wanted to really simplify and demystify that. In terms of demystifying, we’re the first stablecoin in this space to be fully transparent, the first to have a Proof of Solvency with Accountable Data (https://noon.accountable.capital/). And as for simplifying, we have two assets, two clear strategies – greater access to governance or greater access to yield – and a simple points system. We're also already starting to have conversations with some key partners so that people who don't usually hold crypto assets can get access to USN and SUSN without touching web3.” Of course, it wouldn’t be a big web3 moment without an airdrop and, Gautam says, “in late Q2 of 2025, we're going to have the largest airdrop in stablecoin history – 65 to 80% of our governance tokens will be airdropped to our users. We're not airdropping or giving any tokens to VCs, investors, KOLs, anything like that. The message is ‘Use our protocol, help us build our protocol, and get rewarded.’” It’s a message that has got us excited here at Beam Foundation, and one we’re delighted to share with the community.
