So how does AO legacynet work with AO mainnet? The first thing to understand is that as of today, while mainnet is live, almost everyone is still using legacynet. Legacynet is averaging 250 user transactions per second, and cumulatively has seen 1.7 billion user transactions in less than a year. Legacynet is free access for everyone -- but just as a freely accessible highway can have traffic jams, so too can legacynet. @fwdresearch has been subsidizing those nodes for the last year to let users and builders test and experiment on AO. And we will continue to do so for some time to smoothen the transition as users and builders join mainnet. But legacynet will be slow because there’s no cost to using it, and so there is an incredible amount of traffic (still) on it. If computation is free, even a small set of users can create an endless amount of computation. In the coming weeks, user interfaces through wallets and payment clients will be ready so you can join AO mainnet’s infinitely scalable, high-throughput fastlane. Think of it as if they are tollbooths coming online, paving the way for seamless access.
