EigenDA (@eigen_da): WHY DOES DECENTRALIZED DA MATTER?

Estimated coin impact

Scores are not price-change percentages. High impact means a score of +70 or more, or -70 or less.

WHY DOES DECENTRALIZED DA MATTER? Data availability is absolutely crucial for any blockchain and the main scalability bottleneck for Ethereum L2s. Data not available? Then the chain cannot be verified anymore. That's why security and decentralization matter in the context of DA. For rollups posting data to Ethereum, data remains accessible for verification as it's stored on the secure and decentralized L1. Users can always prove rollup state to the bridge contract and withdraw funds, even if the rollup sequencer withholds data. But while Ethereum offers secure DA, the L1 data throughput remains very limited, even post-EIP-4844 and the addition of blobs. To overcome this scalability bottleneck, builders often have to rely on small off-chain committees for DA. This improves scalability and reduces L2 transaction fees but also introduces reliance on trusted third parties for network access and verification, which poses significant risks. EigenDA fixes this. How? By providing a more decentralized solution that consists of two crypto-economically secured sets of over 200 operators staking $ETH and $EIGEN, which verify, store & serve data to consuming apps/rollups. Operators make verifiable commitments to make data available, and through slashing mechanisms, can be held accountable, if they fail to do so. Built on @eigenlayer and secured by Ethereum. We Do DA. You Do It All. On Ethereum.
