The Dogecoin Foundation is a non-profit organization that has been building open-source projects for the Dogecoin Ecosystem, and currently employs a number of full time developers to work across a range of projects for the benefit of the Dogecoin community. Our aim since 2021 has been to increase the adoption of Dogecoin as a useful currency for everyday payments by building the infrastructure and tools needed for businesses everywhere to adopt Dogecoin, as well as investigate ways to make Dogecoin more scalable and efficient as a global means of exchange for all humanity. This effort has been funded primarily through a generous donation from @VitalikButerin and more recently another major Dogecoin fan who has wished to remain anonymous. Going into 2025 the Dogecoin Foundation is seeking to continue the open-source work we’ve been doing, especially through the new Dogebox Decentralized Infrastructure System (dogebox.dogecoin.org) which is the culmination of development across many projects, and the vehicle we envisage for on-boarding the first million grass-roots retailers to accept Dogecoin as a direct payment layer. Dogebox will allow every day businesses to self-host and self-custody their own online shops, build integrations with existing systems, and allow regular node-runners to participate in decentralized payment systems that will reward them when people spend their Dogecoin for goods and services in their neighbourhoods.
