The hardest part of launching a new data product is building everything around it: payment systems, economic security, distribution, and a network of providers willing to run your workload. Horizon handles all of that at the protocol level. Data service developers can now plug into The Graph's infrastructure and focus on what they're actually good at: building specialized tools for use cases we haven't imagined yet.
DTCC processes a majority of trades in the U.S. stock market. This year, they went on stage at SmartCon and talked about building with The Graph. The institutions aren't coming. They're here 🏛️
2025 was a building year. Amp launched. Token API went live. Hypergraph debuted. Subgraph Dev Mode made building faster than ever. The Graph is setting the pace 🛠️
Some dates matter more than others. December 17th marks the official launch date of The Graph Network, marking 5 years of operating critical web3 data infrastructure and setting standards for decentralized indexing and query integrity across chains. 🌐⚙️
AI compute demand is exploding, and decentralized GPU networks are becoming critical infrastructure. To support the next phase of growth, we’re proposing a new tokenomics framework designed for stability, sustainability, and real economic alignment. 1/8⤵️
Delegators on The Graph just got significantly better economics with Horizon. ➕ The 0.5% delegation tax is completely removed. ➕ You can now submit up to 100 simultaneous undelegation requests instead of one at a time. ➕ Returns improve across the board. The strategic shift: Delegation is now service-specific. You choose both an Indexer AND which data service to delegate to. Existing delegations auto-migrated to SubgraphService, but as new services launch (Substreams, Token API, analytics), you can distribute stake across multiple services with different fee markets. Each new data service creates additional fee streams. More services mean more protocol activity, more GRT fees generated, more token burns, stronger scarcity. Delegators now have exposure to a wider and more diverse protocol economy instead of relying on a single service for returns. Subgraphs generate fees. Substreams generate fees. Token API generates fees. Each service operates independently while contributing to shared protocol growth. Delegators benefit from the entire ecosystem's expansion, not just one product's performance.
The Graph's Horizon upgrade expands Indexer economics from single-service operators to multi-service providers in a growing data economy. For Indexers, staking now happens per data service. Want to serve Substreams? Stake GRT in that service. Token API? Separate stake. Each service has independent fee markets and demand profiles. One Indexer can now earn across multiple revenue streams instead of just Subgraphs. Long-lived allocations replace mandatory 28-day cycles. Present proof of indexing every 7-14 days to collect rewards instead of constantly opening and closing allocations. This cuts down onchain transactions and improves service reliability. Plus, Horizon introduces rewards eligibility thresholds for availability, sync speed, and query latency. These requirements came from the Indexer community to ensure The Graph rewards providers delivering verifiable, high-performing infrastructure. Better data quality strengthens the entire network's reputation.
Centralized datacenters are becoming harder and more expensive to manage. Sourcing compute from a distributed network of everyday devices is becoming easier, more powerful and cheaper. The direction of travel is clear.
The Graph spent 5 years becoming the standard for blockchain data infrastructure. Horizon is the upgrade that transforms that foundation into a platform where competitors can't follow. Trillions of queries have been processed, and thousands of applications are built on Subgraphs. Now that same economic security, payment infrastructure, and provider network extends to real-time data streams, token APIs, analytics solutions, and enterprise compliance tools. As The Graph Network continues to mature, it consolidates shared infrastructure that grows stronger with each new service. More services generate more protocol fees. More fees lead to more token burns. More burns strengthen GRT scarcity. This is how protocols capture value at scale. Horizon means The Graph now supports the full spectrum of blockchain data needs: developers building DeFi applications, enterprises requiring compliance-ready data pipelines, AI systems analyzing onchain activity, high-frequency trading platforms, and use cases that don't exist yet. One decentralized protocol for all of it.
The Graph core dev team @edgeandnode has been working with @coinbase, @googlecloud, and @ethereumfndn's dAI teams to help shape foundational standards for agentic infrastructure, contributing to x402 for payments and ERC-8004 for agent discovery. @ampersend_ai ties these
The Graph launched in 2021 with Subgraphs, processed trillions of queries, and proved that permissionless data works. But blockchain data needs are diverse: real-time streams, analytics, APIs, and custom queries. Horizon makes The Graph the protocol to integrate ALL of them. Mainnet December 9th.

.@The_DTCC is rebuilding the fundamental infrastructure banks use to move trillions of dollars. And it’s using The Graph. Here's what that actually looks like ⬇️ Earlier this year, DTCC ran "The Great Collateral Experiment." They demonstrated what happens when you move repo agreements onto blockchain rails with instant settlement. On blockchains? Instant. Which means they can run with far less buffer capital. This isn't theoretical. This is how institutions are actually thinking about blockchain adoption. Real infrastructure solving real trillion-dollar problems. The Graph is critical to making it work. At SmartCon this week, DTCC and The Graph discussed this work publicly for the first time. Stay tuned for insights on how traditional finance is actually adopting blockchain infrastructure.

Case Study: How The Graph's Substreams and Token API Made Multi-Chain Indexing 24x Faster Sequential Processing Creates Multi-Chain Bottlenecks Building multi-chain applications requires unified access to token data across various blockchains. Typically, traditional RPC-based indexing processes blocks sequentially, creating fundamental shortcomings: Sequential processing cannot keep pace with demanding data needs Complex balance changes in DeFi protocols get missed or calculated incorrectly Each chain needs separate infrastructure, multiplying costs These constraints made building an optimal Token API challenging with traditional approaches, so The Graph built a different approach using Substreams. Solution: Substreams Makes a Better Token API Possible The Graph’s Token API is a unified REST API that serves token, balance, price, and NFT data across Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Optimism, Arbitrum, Base, Unichain, Avalanche, and Solana. Powered by Substreams, Token API delivers: Wallet Balance Data: Current and historical token balances with accurate DeFi position tracking Transaction Data: Token transfers with full context and cross-chain tracking Price Data: OHLC feeds with historical data and real-time updates NFT Data: ERC-721/1155 ownership records, metadata, and transfer history The system also integrates AI using a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server connecting users’ applications directly to the product’s backend. The API provides this data instantly across all supported chains. Why Substreams Powers Token API’s Performance The Graph’s Token API achieves its remarkable performance because Substreams fundamentally transforms how blockchain data is indexed. Instead of adapting traditional indexing methods, Token API leverages Substreams' core innovations: Parallel Processing: Indexing jobs are divided into 1k block segments, enabling the simultaneous indexing of thousands of blocks per second. This parallel architecture is why Token API can convert hours of processing into just minutes of work. Composable Modules: Transfer, balance, price, and NFT modules are built as independent Substreams components. Each module develops independently, caches outputs, and eliminates redundancy. Chain-Agnostic Design: Firehose provides a flat file format usable across chains, with one unified protobuf schema. The Token API ingests data from all supported blockchains: Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Polygon are processed and standardized into the schema for easy consumption. Redundant Balance Tracking: Substreams supports batched RPC lookups outside of its own stateful balances to accurately capture every DeFi balance update, from flash loans to multi-step swaps. Everything gets tracked. Intelligent Caching: After processing data, downstream modules instantly reuse it. Processing Ethereum's token transfers once allows new modules to use the cached data, resulting in major speed boosts. Hours of processing don’t go to waste. Result: Substreams Makes 24x Faster Performance Real The performance gains from building Token API on Substreams are transformative: Ethereum: Full blockchain sync reduced from 3 days to 10 hours Arbitrum One: Complete history processed in 15 hours instead of 15 days These improvements represent a 2300% speed increase for Arbitrum and over 600% for Ethereum. Caching and modular design compound these gains, making queries once considered impossible now practical. AI-Powered Data Access Through a Model Context Protocol (MCP server), the Token API enables natural language queries and millisecond aggregations. Developers can instantly: Pull wallet balances across chains Retrieve years of NFT ownership data Stream real-time token prices The Developer Advantage No infrastructure, no debugging Unified queries across nine chains and counting Accurate balance tracking for even the most complex DeFi positions AI-ready with natural language query support Why It Matters Token API demonstrates how Substreams doesn't just make indexing faster. It enables entirely new categories of blockchain applications. By building on Substreams, Token API delivers: Real-time accuracy that sequential processing cannot achieve Cross-chain interoperability through unified architecture Cost cuts that make comprehensive indexing affordable Every architectural decision in Token API leverages Substreams to deliver this massive performance improvement. The result: easier DeFi dashboards, AI trading bots, gaming platforms, and analytics tools can now access blockchain data in minutes instead of hours. Substreams made Token API possible. Token API makes blockchain data practical. Start querying today. Build faster applications with zero infrastructure at thegraph.com/token-api/

The Graph's Substreams are the fastest way to get Ethereum data. ▶️Traditional indexing = turning one faucet on/off 1000x to fill a bathtub ▶️Substreams = 15 faucets on full blast with direct connection Traditional blockchain indexing almost always uses RPC calls, while Substreams hook directly in blockchain nodes and leverage parallel processing to stream data where you want it.
The Graph and the Future of Enterprise in Web3: Building with Principles, Not Promises As blockchain technology matures beyond speculation into real utility, enterprise and financial institutions are exploring how to leverage web3's transformative potential. From banks piloting stablecoins to companies tokenizing real world assets, the shift represents more than technological adoption. It's about building systems that are transparent, verifiable, and resilient by design. At The Graph, decentralization isn’t seen as an ideological stance, but as a fundamental design principle that enables better systems. When no single company controls the data infrastructure, it can't suddenly change pricing, restrict access, or shut down services. When blockchain data is openly accessible, anyone can verify transactions and spot inconsistencies. When developers can build without asking permission, they ship faster and experiment freely. These aren't just web3 talking points. They're the foundation for enterprise-grade systems that can prove their value through performance, reliability, and measurable outcomes. Why Enterprises Need More Than Promises Traditional enterprises entering web3 face a paradox. They need the benefits of blockchain technology (transparency, immutability, programmability) while maintaining the performance, compliance readiness, and reliability their operations demand. Many have been burned by solutions that promised revolution but delivered complexity without execution. The Graph focuses on fundamentals that matter to institutions: transparent and verifiable data, composable systems that integrate with existing infrastructure, and permissionless tools that don't create vendor lock-in. The Graph is building systems that serve thriving web3 applications today while welcoming traditional finance and emerging enterprise use cases of tomorrow. Decentralization as Enterprise Infrastructure For enterprises, decentralization isn't about removing control. It's about distributing it intelligently. The Graph helps these institutions decentralize at the data layer, ensuring no single entity can manipulate, censor, or restrict access to critical information. This approach directly addresses enterprise concerns around vendor dependencies, transparency, data integrity, and system resilience. Indexers speak a common protocol, enabling composability across ecosystems. This isn’t idealism. It’s infrastructure built for mission-critical, interoperable, and resilient applications. Here’s how this works in practice: When a financial institution builds on The Graph, they're not trusting a single company's servers or hoping a centralized API stays online. They're leveraging a global network of independent indexers competing to provide the best service. If one fails or tries to manipulate data, others seamlessly take over. This isn't idealism. Its infrastructure designed for mission-critical applications. Infrastructure That Meets Institutional Standards Today's institutional players demand more than promises. They need auditability for compliance, performance at scale for global operations, privacy controls for sensitive data, and clear paths from proof of concept to production deployment. The Graph delivers through battle-tested tools already processing billions of queries. Subgraphs transform raw blockchain data into structured APIs, enabling institutions to build responsive applications without managing complex indexing infrastructure. Financial platforms use them to track asset movements, monitor compliance metrics, and power real-time dashboards. Substreams provide high-performance data pipelines that process years of blockchain history in hours, not weeks. Substreams is ultra-low latency, highly scalable, and provides parallel processing. Institutions leveraging Substreams reduce infrastructure costs by up to 70% while gaining the processing power needed for sophisticated analytics and risk modeling. Token API delivers reliable token and NFT data through simple REST endpoints, perfect for institutions building custody solutions, portfolio management tools, or regulatory reporting systems. No blockchain expertise required. MCP (Model Context Protocol) bridges AI and blockchain, enabling next-generation applications that combine artificial intelligence with verifiable onchain data. Financial institutions are exploring MCP for automated compliance monitoring, risk assessment, and predictive analytics. Supporting the Transition to Web3 The Graph recognizes that institutional adoption requires more than technology. It demands clear standards, regulatory clarity, and industry coordination. That's why The Graph Foundation stands alongside 50+ industry leaders in supporting frameworks like the CLARITY Act, which provides clear criteria for distinguishing decentralized systems from centralized ones. This matters because regulation based on outdated models stifles innovation. When regulators understand that truly decentralized systems reduce information asymmetries and align incentives better than centralized alternatives, they can craft rules that protect consumers while enabling progress. The Graph's infrastructure demonstrates these principles in action: transparent, verifiable, and designed to eliminate the conflicts of interest inherent in centralized systems. Real World Impact Today The Graph isn't preparing for an abstract future; it’s powering real applications today. Over 1.2 trillion queries have been served across the network, with major DeFi protocols relying on The Graph's infrastructure for their operations. NFT marketplaces use The Graph to instantly display ownership history, trading volumes, and collection analytics without building their own indexing systems. And AI companies leverage The Graph’s data layer to train models on verified blockchain data. This isn't about replacing traditional systems overnight. It's about providing infrastructure that lets institutions experiment, iterate, and scale at their own pace. Whether building a proof of concept or deploying a production system, The Graph's tools provide the same reliable foundation. What Comes Next The Graph continues building for the long term by investing in technologies that institutions need: enhanced privacy controls for sensitive data, improved cross-chain interoperability for global systems, and deeper AI integration for intelligent automation. The future of enterprise blockchain adoption won't be driven by hype cycles or speculative promises. It will be built on infrastructure that delivers measurable value through transparent, composable, and resilient systems. The Graph isn't just talking about this future; it's being built today, one query at a time.
